Ya, some of us are old enough to remember regan throwing the mentally ill from care facilities with nothing but a garbage bag of their belongings. No plan, no help, just get out. It was heartbreaking.Then... he got pissed about the optics of homelessness in DC and he cleared them out of his sight.

According to Ruth Ben Ghiat 25-30 percent of the population have authoritarian tendencies. Without political avenues for expression, they use power and control over family members. Note the attack on DV funding. Axis II is rare but this is not.
Thank you. That’s an interesting, but also disturbing statistic. There was a study also that showed DV dramatically increased with unemployment or financial duress. It’s awful. I think I will study up on the psychology of an authoritarian mindset.
DV research focuses is on physical violence and felony charges. Financial duress increases feelings of helplessness and a likely need to increase control elsewhere. Coercive control is a subset of DV which is primarily perpetrated by men. Emma Katz has a substack with great info.
Interesting!! I want to see the connections between DV and the authoritarian mindset. Collectively, we really need to understand the problem deeply if we’re ever going to be able to work better on solutions for the future.
