When this particular fash slop goes around I'm always struck by how it's not just an idealized '80s/'90s childhood, but that of a really spoiled rich kid. Like this is the mental universe of the most uninteresting, coddled gentry dipshits everyone else hated.

Why is all nostalgia just “remember when you could buy this”?

I grew up in the '80s and '90s. No one I knew, not even the handful of more comfortably middle class kids, lived like this or could even dream of living like this.

It's not just the imagined affluence, it's things no kids would've had at the same time, like Pokemon and Star Wars in that last picture.

Dunno, when I was a poor kid in the 80s and 90s, everybody had an XBox (2001), a GameCube (2001), Guitar Hero (2005), and Super Mario Galaxy (2007). I don’t know who you were hanging out with…

Oh yeah, that time the Reagan admin accidentally sent everyone time machines instead of rejection letters for food stamps. That was wild.

What I can remember about being a kid in the 90s was, like, a bag of legos from the early 80s, comic books from the 70s, and a Sega Master system. *Only* having new stuff was for assholes.
