It's been speculated Laticoleus are mainly confined to the tree canopy.* Wonder if they mainly walk about in the canopy at night, instead of flying.🤔 And in this trap they walked into the trap from the canopy-like brush.

* Admitted, everyone always goes "canopy specialist?" whenever a forest species is rarely caught. - Laticoleus are really rare? Canopy specialists. - Only one Epirhyssa johanna ever caught? Could they be ⭐Canopy Specialists⭐? - Didn't see any elephants 🐘 today? Perhaps they're in the canopy?

Would be curious if no one would be an actual canopy specialist. How often these traps are placed high up in or near the canopy?

Not very often yet. I saw someone lift a few traps up into the canopy when I was in Uganda, but it was only for a short time. It's so much harder than just putting them on the ground. The few results we have, though, have been interesting. There are definitely canopy specialists around.

Also, there's no escaping the fact that in tropical forest, pretty much all the life is in the canopy. The ground is basically a handy place for the tree roots. Some day, I'm going to lift 50 traps up into tropical forest canopy for a year..

But the few canopy traps that have been used have led to absolutely everything being explained as "canopy specialism". Don't let an entomologist look at solving the mismatch between quantum mechanics and relativity, they'll just ask "have you considered canopy specialism?".
