yeah I’m hesitant to post my amateur artwork and I don’t think the vast majority of people who follow me care about me trying to work through some OC backstory things

I couldn't promise interest one way or another, but I personally find it pleasant when I see someone I follow (who I do follow predominantly for news/politics) talk about other stuff. It's something I'm trying to do a little more as well (with limited success).

Yeah, agreed. Even if it's stuff I'm not interested in, it's a pleasant reminder of human life and variation and that there is other shit to talk about/enjoy. Which is why in 38 days I'm going to be posting about hockey a lot.

The only such posting that I have any problem with is when people post like "my life is worthless, why do I even exist, the world is evil" and I'm about to say something supportive and then I realize that they're posting about a baseball game

Now I'm imagining the uproar of hockey and politics bluesky interacting if: 1. Trump is still alive in two months; and 2. Ovechkin hadn't broken Gretzky's record last season. Ovechkin finally breaks the record, and you suddenly see: "IT HAPPENED! FINALLY!" And then find out he's still alive.

my impression of the NHL is that their collective opinion on Russia invading Ukraine and on Trump threatening to forcibly annex Canada is that the aggrieved parties should just get over it for the sake of the locker room

Oh, to be clear, I fully agree. I've never liked Ovechkin, and while I was bitterly disappointed to find out about Gretzky's politics, I was somehow also unsurprised. But it's still a thing that would have happened.
