I agree that it will be hard to screw up too much. 3/5 seems secure. But what if it is a masterpiece? Could it be a masterpiece? Do we deserve a masterpiece?
I've not thought much of other Scott Cooper films but did appreciate what appears to be a real connection to the subject.
For me (Springsteen fan since high school), the main thing stopping it being great, not just good is it doesn't showcase the music quite enough. There were songs from Nebraska that I definitely missed hearing. But I enjoyed it overall.
