Many also need to disconnect specific potential for global financial crisis around the overvaluation of the current tech sector from long term trajectory of specific technologies. Railroad speculation led to huge financial crashes in 1850s and 1873 but railways still transformed the world by 1900

The conjunction of the coming crash with Trumpist kleptocracy might (will IMO) transfer leadership of the Digital Revolution from the pioneer country to the 2nd wave ones in the way that the UK was eclipsed by Germany and then others (including the US)

I’m hoping the inherent absurdities of the current US administration not only east it from the inside but also act as a deterrent to others.

I wonder if we have to go back a little further and see this first wave of speculation and mania over AI as more like canal speculation. The future was about mass transport as ours will be mass data, but I also can't help thinking there is something profoundly limiting about the current tech.

I think some of the errors regarding confabulation and hallucinations are hard wired into the LLM tech and as we are seeing no amount of scaling seems to be correcting it. To deliver on anything close to the hype AI has to start understanding why its current errors are so profoundly dumb.
