In my field (health IT) a lot of companies outside Europe have a policy of following EU rules anyways. This gives them confidence that they'll be able to do business everywhere else too.
Don’t think anyone likes dwelling on that one right now, but yes. Asia too.
This seems to mean a strengthening of defence capacity, of Frontex to control borders, greater need of regulation of capital movements and more diplomatic capacity. When trust fades, the bill increases.
Even more important to identify and support truly strategic products and services. (This means strengthening university sectors dramatically!)
