Netfix only pay the minimum for what they need to entice new signups. Once that's done they no longer need the series (They have a history of doing only a series or two of any production). They rely on people forgetting to cancel subscriptions they then buy/create a new thing to continue this over.

Ah…I wondered why they are telling me every week the new stuff that is coming. I realized they want to push view numbers, but didn’t realize it is probably needed to push membership too. Thanks for that! So glad to learn from all the smart people here!
