Watching (cautiously) Hurricane Katrina: Race Against Time on Hulu. I was technically a Katrina Kid- but experienced Rita much more. It truly is impossible for me to imagine having to accept that my only option would be to leave (long term) my city- my beautiful home. #nolasky #nolatwitter

I really don’t know where else I’d go. I have family still in Cajun country. But New Orleans has been my home all my adult life, and in my soul since well before. Evacuating is one thing- but moving to a different city would be irreparable.

I wandered the earth for most of the rest of 2005 not knowing if I'd ever be able to return home, if I would ever have a home to return to. I do not recommend it.

I remember having that vagabond sensation, but trusting that my dad would figure it out. I can’t imagine being the adult in the situation. I’ve asked my dad if he can share his story with me, now that we’re both adults. He’s not ready yet. But hopefully one day he is.

I can't watch it. I lived it. It's been 20 years, but it's still too soon.

I lived it as well, but as a tween. As a doctor and hopefully contributing member of my beloved city, I have a guilty pull to further educate myself beyond my sheltered view of adolescence. Goodness it’s hard though.

I couldn’t finish watching it tbh. Made me sick to my stomach to picture what those parents with young kids/babies went through😭I remember my mom Crying every night as we watched the news with those folks on the roofs

I lived in Memphis at the time and we had a HUGE population of displaced families staying at local churches 😭😭😭

We evacuated into our RV, so lived many places over the few months. But I’ll never forget the graciousness of everyone we encountered that knew we were evacuees. At the time it amounted to boudin balls, which is as much as a tween could want. But it was love and grace.
