one of the great climate successes in recent memory, something like 5-10% of CO2e emissions were from light bulbs as of 10+ years ago, which is about the same as the CO2 from personal transportation via car! LED replacement isn't yet at 100% but that's effectively like getting every car off the road

This is like that "20 companies are responsible for whatever percent of carbon emissions" and its all oil companies. Like those emissions came from individuals burning gasoline in their car or using electricity generated from fossil fuel power plants They arent just doing it for fun

The consumption patterns of hundreds of millions of people matter a lot, actually

Some steps you missed: -there was government effort to inform people -there was large industrial effort to switch manufacturing - here, there were government campaigns to *provide* people with LEDs Individual action (buying LEDs) wouldn't have happened without industry and government support.

yes good points but now especially the replacement cycle for incandescent bulbs is so short the economic decision is firmly in no brainer territory

Whereas, by contrast: -powering AC with solar or otherwise sustainably is already not only possible but happening on scale, and is much better than making guilty articles about AC existing when it literally saves lives - articles like this don't actually inform about the real problem or solutions

- neither the industry nor the government (in North America at least) are putting money power behind those better AC solutions to make it easier to mitigate the harm of climate change (again, literal lives saved) without contributing to its worsening
