BUT! if I took your advice, how many colors do I choose? the foyer goes up into the upstairs hall so that's an important one, and downstairs the question is how to coordinate colors or if I just pick one or two

You def don't want the hall to be dark so I would pick a family (like greens/blues or yellows/reds) and put the lightest one in the hall, slightly darker in a room you can see from the hall so there is layering. Hall could honestly just be a warmer white-to-cream it looks a little harsh in the photo

it's currently sherwin williams alabaster. it's warm but probably not enough for the daylighting conditions I get. one thing I underestimated when going white was how much time of day/year influences the color of the rooms (I knew it was a thing but not this strong)
