Incredibly powerful 🔥
Incredibly powerful 🔥
Saw this. Incredible amount of ppl calling it "childish" and "disruptive". Let's see them say that to a line of Maori warriors....
This gave me shivers! She is so badass!
If this were to happen in the USA under Trump, the House Sargent-At-Arms would have been summoned to zip tie them to their seats for the remainder of the congressional session. No pee breaks because Mace doesn’t have the time to check for their “proper” gender. At the very least.
I love it and I hope we bring this same energy here
So incredibly inspiring
If Māori speaking friends can help, I am grateful for clarity. Rough to English translation of this haka is: ‘Governor, you are on my land. Do I live, or do I die?’
Google 'ka mate' haka
Thalia, Thank You! 🙏🏾 Fantastic!
“One can only imagine how Ngati Toa Chief Te Rauparaha felt when he first chanted these words 200 years ago. He had just evaded capture by a rival iwi (tribe) and was given shelter by another iwi, who hid him underground in a kūmara (sweet potato pit.)” www.newzealand.com/us/feature/h...
I loathe performative politics but given what they were up against it felt bloody poetic.
Now that’s a WOMAN
THAT is how you engage in non-violent protest and resistance.
Haka is legit
YAAAAAAAWN.
Correct! you should be yawning at how boring you are for leaving multiple low-skill troll comments on the same skeet
LOL… More like incredibly LAME.
You would be shaking if you were in that room 100%
pfft
Hows that rock you're living under on twitter & FB?
Do you not grasp just how powerful a statement this is?
He's a moron best to just block and move on
I give trolls no air or attention. It’s what they want.
Thats fair, but making them expose their own incompetence is fun (and easy)
👍🏼
No, just block.
Kindly don't tell me how to conduct myself online
You overestimate them giving a Fuck about your opinion. But sure, engage.
Goodbye forever
And this is why I block people like you. Devoid of any kindness or self awareness.
Oh I couldn't agree more >:D the key is deciding how much time you're willing to seed them
Right wing trolls like him have sad little shriveled lives. The only thing that gives them happiness anymore is poking and prodding others to get that negative attention they desperately crave. Nothing upsets than more than when you don’t engage and just block them.
Are you going to be okay?
Blocked & reported for some anti trans stuff.
They might or might not, but they certainly don't care. Block and move on without them.
Oh, he does grasp that, it's why he's trying to put it down
You're the one who's lame
Sure Jan 🙄 I mean Greg! 🙄
Wrong!!! It was the right time and place and it wasn't just Hana!
Oh look, a MAGA troll that couldn’t stand being on shitter because their own kind is insufferable
The soulless statement expected from an empty mind and a calloused heart, bleeding everywhere begging for attention. Get thee behind me, troll.
Republican talking heads do not like it. They don't want it to inspire people here in the US. We need more of the fighting back videos to go viral and maybe it will inspire the Dem politicians into fighting back.
The difference between Manifest Destiny and Lebensraum is that the 7th Cavalry did not have tanks and gas chambers in 1876.
did they win the vote?
It’s just the start of 6 months of discussion before the bill moves to its second reading. The tiny libertarian party moving it is essential to the right wing coalition in power. The bill is racism under the cloak of “inclusion”, ruining 180 years of partnership.
Not yet
so all that screaming was worth sweet eff all?
Probably worth a touch more than your opinion though eh?
But will it do anything?
It was meant to draw attention. We are discussing it. It was successful. Did you think the point was to break out the haka and sudenly win the vote? Silly billy.
The bill is incredibly unpopular and was likely never going to pass anyway. This was always Seymour posturing. I thought this whole thing was kinda dope, but I talked to more conservative family members who said it had swayed them negatively, so I worry it was an unecessary loss of political capital
What is "it"?
It wasn't screaming it was thier haka
Millions of people across the globe are now aware of Maori rights issues, even you. Only because of her actions; well worth it.
That's not how NZ politics works.
From Canada. Your parliament works like our parliament. Tell us you have no idea how politics works without saying you have no idea how politics works. Showing stupidity to the world isn't a good look
Block, don't engage
Done
Wow, look who can be a bully, how very Ingrid Newkirk of you
That's not screaming. The bill is currently at select committee and is expected to lose at the next reading.
wasn’t tearing up a document giving minorities rights? i think so…
Nope. Go be stupid somewhere else.
My country, my people, my whakapapa! I am so proud of her, our youngest MP at 22 standing up for her people and all people with that rousing haka! Kia Kaha (Stay strong)
The Dems in Congress need to take a lesson. Brave, determined and on the right side.
Remember folx,,,, it was THEIR land…… making then get citizenship is the most ludicrous thing I saw when in PS last time, at museum 🤬
If this can stir the soul of a midwest US, exhausted, defeated, cynical middle aged white lady, imagine what the indigenous people of NZ must feel when watching it. Just - WOW! -This- is the energy Dems need to bring for the next 4 years and beyond.
It's awesome! The Haka is an amazing experience to watch!
This is my country and these are my people.
It invokes so much emotion. Truly powerful display.
This is because the government are voting to breach their own 1840 treaty with Māori people, despite Māori being part of the government, and the treaty still totally relevant. 35,000+ Māoris marched in protest the following day.
I watched that so many times. amazing
Update on the bill and national response in opposition: www.rnz.co.nz/news/nationa...
I can't even tell you how many dozens of times I watched this over the last week. So excellent 😀
Wow. I would love to see something like this in the US House of Representatives.
George, my family visiting from TX last week, brought up that post. The agreement was we need something like the Hakka to bring us together. Traditions are powerful things...
It’s Haka not Hakka. Pronunciation is key. It’s way more than just a tradition, it’s a living declaration of how we want to be as a country. Please watch this is you can www.facebook.com/share/r/19ew...
Thank you, Harry.
My pleasure. It’s great it’s got coverage but it’s a tricky thing to understand!
A stunning moment by our youngest MP. Fully justified when the bill being protested, is gaslighting pakeha NZers into believing they are somehow currently disadvantaged by the Treaty of Waitangi and its already accepted principles.
It's awesome
Gives me chills, so powerful!
This is the most metal thing I’ve ever seen in an institution that didn’t include violence and I am 💯 here for it! Stand strong Māori!! ✊🏻
Another proud people savaged by invaders. But still very proud of their heritage. I love these haka's.
I wish there was a video of this. As a matter of fact I wish I had a traditional challenge dance. More power to them.
Haku focuses energy into an expression of group power that is both passionate and protective. Democrats need to develop the same kind of mentality.
We are so very proud of this Strong Wahine ❤️
Can they please come to Washington D.C?
This is the second time I’ve posted this video - a first and it still sends chills down my spine! Thx for the reminder of a universal struggle.
Maybe the Democrats in Congress should learn the Haka.
Maybe they should engage respectfully with Indigenous people from the land they occupy.
Maybe the American government should do the same.
youtu.be/ImrkI58C_rg?...
This is even more powerful when you know what a shy humble young woman Hana-Rawhiti is when she isn't fired up by the mana of her tupuna.🔥 The youngest MP in our Parliament.🥰
Why do I need to go to x to see that video?
It was powerful! And captivating. They were so strong in spirit and form.
It certainly was a fascinating episode. Maori suddenly stood tall and declared no more. Context (not necessarily the best source, just skimming the surface here): www.msn.com/en-us/news/w...
Yes it was. It was amazing. And I loved how tens of thousands of New Zealanders of all ethnicities came out to defend our founding document. We are stronger together. Seymour's act is intended to sow division while stripping rights from us all.
This is incredible to see!
So cool and appropriate!
We should do them here
Love this
The angry, dismissive, haughty look on the puffy white dude’s face as he “endured” the powerful speech of a woman was telling.
A combination of “oh shit” what do I do now, and intellectually understanding they are within their rights. 😂
She’s one scary woman
The passion in this gave me chills and made the hair on the back of neck stand up. Incredible.
Let’s imagine billions of humans as passionate as this woman who stood up for what is right and just. A tiny spark ignites a fire.
Awesome in the classical and modern senses.
What the hell kind of bill is *that* new zealand smh
Incredibly cringe and inappropriate
I love that they got to use their culture to counter an attack on their culture. 👊
Love this. This one shows the colonial response. youtu.be/V188_OKQ2Jo?...
Dawg if I go into politics I want to start doing this
Beautiful and powerful. Love to see it!
I thought this said “harakiri”. Very disappointed. #clickbait
Imagine if the Democratic Party ever fought like this.
I can't stop watching this.
Entire state of Hawaii is behind the Maori people! Remind every legislature where they are living.
We need to elect @lizzobeeating.bsky.social the the House so she can lead a twerk squad to shut down bigoted nonsense on every vote.
Every time I see this done, I cry! I feel the Pride & the Power it displays. Love it.
@wellywahine.bsky.social Did you see you were highlighted in this article?
Woah that’s kind of crazy haha! 😂
Yes. This was amazing
Can she please come to trump’s inauguration?
Good. They need to protect the treaty and improve it if possible it have it degraded. One of the few places the British colonised by consent/treaty so needs this talked about widely
www.youtube.com/channel/UCEU...
“…powerful moment that has left progressives worldwide cheering.” Find me someone who has issues with this from any side of the aisle.
There’s a few in the comments
The Māori lawmakers' Haka is a stirring reminder of the power of cultural expression in standing against injustice. Solidarity with Indigenous communities worldwide fighting to protect their rights and heritage. 🔥 #IndigenousRights #HakaForJustice
Kia Ora George!
This may be the coolest thing I've seen on the Internet
Dems could learn a lesson.
That was amazing to watch. Such pride!
Is it just me or did she also include a very subtle statement against British colonialism there with her pinky finger raised as she tears up the bill? Reference to proper way to hold a teacup.. Cause that's an extra layer of double brilliance if so!
Like when Nancy tore up Trump's bogus ass speech.
Someone put the sound from that when Nancy was tearing up that speech.
The red coat and sunglasses, perfection. Her standing up in a room full of men, telling trump all roads lead to putin. I stood up at home and cheered!
I am beyond impressed! Such courage! We need to develop our own equivalent to the haka!
I have watched this at least 50 times. Never gets old. 2025 energy right there.
No george, its retarded at best. And BTW, its about wanting to keep privileges based on race.
Thank you George! I might not have seen this, if not for you! Alaska needs some of this Haka!
After seeing this, I posted (on Facebook, sorry) that AOC needs to learn the Haka and use it every chance she gets.
Absolutely not. Cultural appropriation is not a way forward.
That would hardly be authentic, would it?
NO, but it would be fun to watch!
Except for Māori
The Haka is such a powerful display. Every time I see it, no matter what form it's in, something in my soul just resonates with it.
NEW ZEALAND IS TAKING THEIR LAND.
Delete the 4th word above and you’ve got it.
I wonder if she available January 20th around noon…
It just gives me goosebumps every time. I have learned to much about the Māori people from this.
Awesome, truly awe-some.
Man, not even New Zealand is safe from fascist assholes anymore. I hope this bill gets crushed.
I saw the news break a few hours after they did this. That bill needs to be haulted, NZ has taken enough from these poor people
We just had a hikoi (marching protest) in response to this bill. Official low estimates put it at over 35k. It was more likely 50k+ looking at pictures. If we extrapolate that out to U.S population figures it's over 2 million people marching to oppose this bill. #Toitū_Te_Tiriti
We need people like this in our government.
White people just can never stop hurting Indians.
This is how you protest BS in the government.
#NewZealand. PARLIAMENT erupts in #HAKA ... and then a 9 day protest! #maori #indigenous youtu.be/83f6luCv6M0?...
YES YES HERE IS VIDEO LINK: During discussions of proposed legislation—The Treaty Principles Bill—that would significantly infringe on indigenous land and cultural rights, legislator Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke led her fellow lawmakers in a haka, Māori ceremonial dance. youtu.be/83f6luCv6M0?...
That’s awesome! Good for them.
That’s a weird thing to do.
It’s not “weird” in Aotearoa New Zealand. Did you bother to read or learn anything about it?
anti indigenous bill what?
An Instagram account named "there_I_ruined-it" set it to Rage Against the Machines "Killing in the name of" and made it so much better, if possible.
Now this is a lesson for the congressional democrats - get organized, get loud - get sh*t done.
I should make this my wake-up chime. Every time I see the video, the POWER in her eyes! Ah! Women are AWESOME!
That was the most I felt from any governing body in amost 50 years. And I wasn't even there.
Wow. The Māori culture has the Force!
Sir John Kirwan, ex All Black, explains it better than I can. Please watch. www.facebook.com/share/r/19ew...
I saw this!!! Chills down my spine!! ✊️✊️✊️✊️✊️✊️✊️✊️✊️✊️✊️
Childish
Thanks for highlighting this George. As a white New Zealander who grew up in a maori community, I find what the current government is trying to do extremely distasteful. Even though I have lived overseas for the past three decades, I am very proud of those legislators.
Like minded kiwi here! Good on her, I just hope Luxon keeps his word and it doesn’t not pass second reading
We need a Protest song and dance.
It’s so crazy that stuff like this seems so cringey but you watch it and fuck it’s badass! Especially that lady at the beginning, she needs to be a metal front(wo)man.
This is the attitude I want democrats to have ..be bold
Indeed!
I saw this a few days ago and it's just amazing. Why can't we do this on this side of the world? We need our own Haka!
Respectful engagement with Indigenous people near you is the next step.
Omg for a sec I thought that said harakiri
So powerful the conservative MPs are trying to have her censured for longer than the rules say. She asked for a speaking slot which was denied. Perhaps next time they'll give her one. Totally culturally appropriate, the right-wingers are annoyed and intimidated
Love this and so proud of my country 🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿
Proud to be here in #aotearoa every time I see this.
The Moriori genocide was the mass murder, enslavement, and cannibalism of the Moriori people, the indigenous ethnic group of the Chatham Islands, by members of the mainland Māori from 1835 to 1863. The last full-blood Moriori, Tommy Solomon, died in 1933.
What's your point?
Don't engage, block
That they are not noble
And who has claimed they are?
The author of this thread
I'm not seeing those words here.
I'm glad you are going so far out of your way to agree that they are not, in fact, noble.
Please answer my question about who called them noble. So far all I can see is that you have erected a big strawman to knock down
Your SAT reading comprehension score was probably double digits. The post implied they were noble, it didn't flat-out state it. There's this thing in writing where you don't use the same word twice. You pull oars for genocide like Ben Hur did for freedom.
No. The post said the action was powerful. It said nothing about the nobility of the participants and implied nothing about their nobility. You are reading things into the original post that don't exist.
Wish the Dems had some of this energy.
Powerful message! Nancy pelosi also had a fire move! giphy.com/gifs/ctvcome...
When words aren't enough, bring the haka. Powerful, unapologetic, and deeply rooted. 👏🔥 #HakaForJustice #IndigenousPride #RespectTheMana
We need to make this a *thing*
I Love that
This video should speak for all people of color l.
Haka makes me emotional - dunno'why, it just AFFECTS me... but they're good tears, not sad🥹
...aaaaand Representative Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke was punished by being barred from returning to the Chambers for the rest of the day... I guess we're never to old to be sent to our rooms for talking back to the grown-ups...
Bloody rude to do this when the king is there. Still, she’s known for this. Māori rights are in the process of being acknowledged more This was unnecessary and unkind.
Rude? I’ll tell you what’s bloody rude. Pillaging treasures from other countries the Brits colonised by force, and now refusing to return them.
The King has not visited Aotearoa. Get this and other facts straight before you comment.
The king isn't there. It was necessary.
Not the same person or country. This is New Zealand. You're confusing her with the Victorian senator in Australia.
😂 Aotearoa is the same as Australia don’t ya know … (sarcasm)
Oh, the Queen did visit NZ parliament just a few days later but Seymour and co didn’t want to talk to her …
Well I mean, apparently John Key was confused by the flags being too similar
True, but he’s not representative
I mean, with him I'm just glad he wasn't confusing us with Austria
You're thinking of Australia mate, the King didn't visit Aotearoa New Zealand this time
-The king wasn’t and isn’t here. -what do you mean “She’s known for this”? -can you expand on how “Māori rights are being acknowledged more”. We’d love to know… You obviously don’t know what you’re talking about.
Canadian chiming in on something he knows nothing about.
American who knows nothing about NZ interjecting… how unusual
Love this and watched many times. The NZ women’s rugby team also do this! Wonderfully inspiring🥰
THIS is how Native First Nations can stand up to their occupying powers. But, then, most are not included in Parliaments or Senates. And that should tell us how ILLEGITIMATE those Nations really are, who do not include the original owners of the lands they occupy!
White ladies, respectfully, we ask you not to make copy TickTok videos of this. Its disrespectful.
Dems need to do YMCA whenever anti-2SLGBTQA+ legislation comes to the floor
Ah the haka. At first it looks ridiculous… then it becomes terrifying.
That was amazing!
Oh that our own elected would develop the same powers! Wouldn’t this be amazing during the state of the union by the yellow onion?
If only we had people I ln power that has this much love for people instead of a love for money and power
Gala is always good.
That’s goosebump stuff right their.
Some of us little Yorkshire folk get it George, keep going, your a hero (of mine) x
I love this SO much! I wish this could be my alarm clock … Then I’d be ready every day to kick ass while Resisting.
See also, the nationwide hīkoi in protest at the attack on Māori Toitū Te Tiriti
And the reason behind it. e-tangata.co.nz/comment-and-...
I love the look on the speakers face when they start lol
A beautiful thing. Now...how can you instill this attitude into Dems?
She is our youngest member of Parliament and a force to be reckoned with. :)
She is fierce
It’s the slow rip of the paper !
And the eye contact while she did it. I love they had her back. She is trying to protect the rights of her people from colonizers
A thing of beauty to watch.
