I really think the term DEI needs to be reclaimed from the misappropriation. DEI means more competition among qualified candidates for jobs. It means people extend their vision beyond their immediate networks. As we can see from Trump's picks, non-DEI equals cronyism, unqualified token MAGAs.

I'm less concerned with the wording. What I hate is that they take the term and with context and tone, they imply that it is something negative. We all hear the slur and respond to it, even though we know the term means something else. And so they twist the meaning of the term and others as well.

For example, we say "fake news" meaning statements not based in fact. They now say "fake news," meaning news that met journalistic standards. We say they are following Russian propaganda. They start calling real news "propaganda," so it's difficult to speak about the truth.

Even using your preferred terms, they will still twist with context and tone whatever terms that are used for hiring from a wider pool of qualified applicants or considering a broader range of skill set or knowledge. And we need to address the slur, but not devalue the words.
