As a biologist, I'm gonna say we need civics classes much more than biology classes. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to appreciate the value of rockets, do you?

In recent years I have been stunned by the general ignorance about the U.S. Constitution and basic principles of government. A little history/civics lesson would really help to elevate the national political dialogue.

When I was in high school I had the take a test of US history including a unit on the Constitution. I was also required to take biology. I am thankful my kids were raised in a blue state where they had a solid education as well

A wellness course I took in college (an elective) had a whole unit on these things, info lit and crit thinking. Examining the biases of info sources and factual accuracy. Was a wonderful thing to see. I just wish more ppl got that info

Funny thing happened here back in 2008 when libraries went up on the chopping block, because "we can't afford those": The taxpayers screamed bloody murder. I don't know if there is better example of public services that the public uses (and demands) on the regular, I'd be glad to hear it.

School librarians are being eliminated with students running them. They are being threatened with arrest for books being provided to students. Libraries are being eliminated. Public librarians have the same threats and seeing funding dropped because the fools think Google can replace librarians.

2008 is ancient history, I know. Come to think of it, that's about the time folks began to tell me with a straight face that they "did their research". At Google University...

I went to school in the UK and this was actually taught as part of my history studies as a teenager - examining claims and referencing sources, backing up my own claims with my own references, etc. It was just woven into the way we were taught to approach subject matter.

It’s something we’ve had to reinforce with our kiddo so often when she was younger. Now, as a teenager, she’s all too keen to dissect the source data ….. although there are some still some sources she’ll just regurgitate without too much thought!

They are. As a former science teacher, mandated in the state education instructions. Doesn’t mean they have to remember it, or believe it once they are older.

He doubts my assertion that they aren't using live virus, and then I break his brain explaining mRNA vaccines. 😱😱
