My kids went to a public school w/no tolerance for bullying. I met more non-binary people among their friends than in my whole life prior to kids. Letting them know I was "safe" gave some of them their only safe (and at times life-saving) space. Declaring support matters!

We live in a very liberal city in WI (they DO exist!) where the public schools are very diverse & accepting so, for some kids, the most dangerous time is when they go home. Not all parents approve of how our schools handle things like name changes & confidentiality 😡

My first born is a trans woman. Came out at age 42, I asked when she knew, she said kindergarten. I am afraid for her! And, I am an ally.

I knew by the time I was six. But in the '50s it was something you just didn't talk about. By the time I was around 13 or 14 I merged My born sex and my real sex together because there was no way I would become the boy I knew I was.

I personally knew I wasn't my AGAB (assigned gender at birth) when I was 5. I just didn't have the terminology, nor the knowledge, of what or who I was until I turned 16. Came out at 17 when I fully registered that I am trans and non binary.

I knew when I was 3. Sadly it took me until I was 51 to work up the courage to come out. That was ten years ago and I've never felt better about myself.
