I think there's misunderstanding on this, unless it's me. The tariffs are on foreign cars. US carmakers don't charge the tariffs. But if all your foreign competitors now cost 25% more, why not raise your own prices by 10-15%? You're still cheaper than the foreign cars and that 10-15% is new profit.

The issue is that all Car Manufacturing moves raw materials and parts across the borders, so it's not as simple as the whole car moving once finished. Canada and Mexico are major sources of raw materials, steel, aluminum, car parts, and we have a lot of assembly lines for every major manufacturer.

All of the above are subject to Tarrifs, that cost the manufacturer more in the form of a tax, that gets passed onto the consumer. www.freep.com/story/money/...
