My twins watched PBS Sesame Street everyday before going to preschool and kindergarten, by that time they could write their own name, including the surname, count up to 20 and sing the alphabet song. The programs are invaluable to those unable to afford half/full days at any preschool.

PBS was my preschool education in the mid- to late 80s, and continued to be a source of both education and entertainment throughout my entire childhood and adulthood, as I didn't always have access to cable, but PBS was always there for me, and still is.
