I don't think that's fair. The Army took the supposed theme of the parade--Army history--and ran with it. That was a World War II Sherman tank. That's the kind of tank Patton used. It looks small because so few of them are in working order that to make the movie "Patton" they used 1950s tanks.

War movies that showed WWII tanks in combat or travel had that characteristic hardened steel pins in hardened steel treads squeak. Many were Shermans like the one in the accompanying photo. Newer tanks, I take it, are quieter. Hope not to become firsthand informed.

I guess folks don't watch many WWII movies any more. To me, that's the sound of a tank. In war movies, it often serves the same purpose as the shark theme in Jaws -- be nervous because danger is near.
