National health care is not free in Germany. You pay a certain % of your salary into the health system, your employer pays the other half. If you are self-employed, the amount you pay depends on your income. If you are a state official, you are insured privately. 1/2

Neither is the amount I pay monthly for health insurance that declines all claims multiple times before paying a pittance and leaving the patient with the balance due. And the hours spent getting them to pay that pittance are hours NOT spent enjoying life or focusing on getting well.

Not just in Europe. New Zealand has universal healthcare, excellent employment laws including 4-5 weeks paid annual leave, sick leave and maternity leave and a social security benefit system. The world still turns.

Maternity leave, what’s that? All of our maternity leave is unpaid (better hope you don’t have a rough pregnancy so you can save your PTO) and you get 6 weeks home with your baby for a vaginal birth, 8 weeks for a c-section. Your spouse will get 2 weeks paternity leave, also not paid. Murica.

No help with childcare either, so you can go back to work either. You either just quit your job or pay $500+ a month for daycare. And they wonder why people stopped having babies. 😒😒😒
