Fun fact: The "stars and bars" banner popularly flown as a "confederate flag" wasn't even the flag of the confederacy, which never settled on a single design. It was the Virginian battle flag. Which means it makes even less sense to fly a totally different state's flag.

Being from S.C. and my yes, grandfather fought for the South. I asked my father why he never flew the battle flag as many people around did. He told me he asked his father why he only flew the U.S. flag, and he was told this.

"We fought our battles with honor and when the end came, we laid down our regimental and battle flags with the same honor. To raise those flags again dishonors the honorable thing we did."
