It's out of fashion, but it IS in fascist...
Fundamental to this whole exchange is a really frightening truth that has been a major part of American politics for the last 50 years. The congressional GOP isn't interested in governing, they're interested in exercising power for its own sake.
yes- they've been preventing government for my lifetime!
Why are millions of tax dollars being spent on staffing the offices when the staff simply calls it in, and badly?
Good point. Why isn’t this inefficiency being called out? Why do they have aides if they aren’t doing anything except getting coffee?
If you voted to pass a bill, you voted to pass everything in it. Don’t they at least teach these people how things works work when they get to Congress? They should know.
When was it last IN fashion? It's been a couple of decades, at least.
No he only voted to decrease medicare, medicaid, and increases to tax payer funded white supremacy...
Am I the only one who'd be fired for not doing my job?!!
He's saying that when he votes for a bill, even though the full bill will be put into effect, he is *really* just voting for the pieces that he decides he likes after the fact. Sorry "I didn't vote for the parts that make me look bad" is just not how bills and voting works. Not gonna allow this.
To be fair, this isn't about reading the bill and it's not a thing limited to one side. Things get put into these big bills that function as traps, whether intended that way or not. You don't need to approve of every provision to vote for the bill, just think the good outweighs the bad.
Reading is hard, George! They must obey their Globulous Leader!
Wait until he discovers that on page 684 of the Bigot's Big Bill it states that ICE has the right to lock people called for Amodei for 7 weeks in a cell with a randy gimp.
Interesting that this is the part of the bill they're focusing on here on CNN too--as if that's the worst part of it, the thing one should worry most about in the bill. Which is crazy.
THESE IDIOTS MUST BE REMOVED.
Even if we take his response at face value, maybe this demonstrates that "Big Beautiful Bills" are a bad idea?
There should be a limit to size
GOP voters: Don’t blame me, I voted for the racism and misogyny, not the inconveniences
Nevada: Rep. Mark Amodei says he didn’t vote to raise taxes on Nevada’s gamblers. But, the reconciliation bill raised taxes on Nevada’s gamblers. Amodei voted for the reconciliation bill (which was read on the House floor in its entirety.)
Words cannot express the utter stupidity of these republican lawmakers.
Nope, just their lame excuse.
They knew what they were doing. They intended to pass it. This is just post-passing damage control where they gaslight the country with faux hindsight to run cover. They know that if you don't like what's in a bill, you should change it, or vote against it until you do. You don't vote and then moan.
New precedent. When you disagree with parts of the bill, just approve the whole bill. So much easier, being in Congress is great!
Do not fall for rumors that the vote won’t count! It’s a critical step, amongst protests, boycotts and any other tool at our disposal. Nations fail when you don’t show up.
I wonder if the vote blue no matter who crowd will get out of the way of progressive candidates this time around?
Isn't this why they have a tax payer paid staff?
Oh Look, my congressman, MIA Amodei NV02. You can watch his sad decline as trumps cockholster. Unfortunately, he's not q'yt trumpy enough for the trumpytrout qlick and will be primaried by 8647s bff Texan Sam Brown
We ended up with Manspread Mark when republican sexual predator Congressman John Ensign was caught with his pig in another man's poke and, when daddy nepobucks couldn't pay off the pokee's spouse, stepped down.
Do they not understand how this works? Unless we institute line item votes - the opposite of line item veto - these guys are voting for the whole debacle.
It requires the ability to read.
Based on what they’re doing to libraries, story hours and PBS, they seem keen on spreading their ignorance.
Thats the basis of facsist control. Eliminate intellectuals.
It mimics the reading proficiency of the leader of their cult.
Why can't the guy just say, "I do not believe in that, and I would never have voted for that except that it was part of this bill that had many things that I do think America needs, so I voted for the bill."
complex reasoning is beyond his capability
I think reading *anything* is out of fashion this year. Soon reading itself will be obsolete - talk to your old amigo LeVar 😥
MAGA: Moronic Association of GOP Assholes
They just rubber stamp whatever they are told to. Ever notice how the chamber is empty when somebody is debating the bill?
Yeah like, it's not like this dude gives a fuck what's in the bill. He knew that voting yes was what he should do to remain a loyal Trumper.
I-R-O-N-Y
As if they can read. They don’t care, sign away because Der fuhrer says so.
People at my job get fired for less. He'll be at the next Nuremberg Trials.
Their mind is made up (by what DJT told them is true). Don't try to confuse them with facts
Unfortunately, he's my Rep. There's a lot of conservatives in our district & they keep voting for this turd. He voted No in the 1st round so I thanked him for one of his only conscionable votes ever. Then I had to go back to the norm & tell him what a spineless toadie he is. Nevada deserves better.
Whoa now! Let's not jump to conclusions by assuming they CAN read.
These people are impossible! 🙄
Another addled old white guy past his prime
In the repeal of Roe v Wade, is being half pregnant covered? Just asking for a GOP friend.
Reading the bill is the bare minimum of their jobs. Politicians failing to do their job should be treated as treason.
You mean they can read?
Yeah ok, but what's bad with taxing gamblers more?
Depends, it's legitimate income: #1: Taxing gamblers is fundamentally regressive because like most vice taxes it affects poor people more. #2: BBB fucks you over if you're a professional gambler because you can now only deduct 90% of your losses, which may make gambling unprofitable
When was the last time they put in that kind of effort? And I assume we have to check the 20th century.
Moron
It was read to them in open session.
always was
If you voted for the bill, you voted for the whole damn thing. You can't turn around & tell all your constituents that you just screwed over you only voted ironically on the bad parts so you are still good, right. Dust off that resume. You'll need it soon enough.
I can't believe I was worried about a mistake I made at work today when we have politicians who won't even read the unbelievably damaging bills they pass. Reality check.
Then president will start signing a bill, stop and ask, "What is this?" He doesn't even know what he's signing most of the time.
I know people say he can't read but my running theory is he can't see. He's just too proud to wear glasses. Now hand him the freshly sharpened red crayon!
I feel like his tiny hands would be perfect for putting in contacts though? 🤭
He's probably too much of a bitch to mess with contacts. You're literally poking your eye with something.
🤣 I almost added something similar but I knew someone would step up. He really is such a little bitch
I think reading in general is out of fashion with the GOP.
Cosplay Congressmen...
They'd vote to jump off a cliff if the orange one put it on paper...
great idea!
ought to be a law. can't vote on a bill unless YOU have read all of it. might cut down on the volume of pages and keep things focused. no one reads 1,000 pages in a day or two and casts a meaningful yes or no vote.
Does this fool not understand how it works?
It does seem that way.
✊🍕
Fucking idiots
If you voted yes on it, you voted yes on the entire thing. It isn't a buffet where you pick and choose.
I guess we have to make our representatives take a test on each bill just to prove they read it.
olord
They all screamed read the bill for the ACA. And they just did what they were told by the first rapist.
Hmm so if I do support an exise tax on gambling then should I support this bill even if I dont support other parts of it? That kind of thinking is just incredibly stupid and harmful.
He voted only for the good stuff in the bill. He didn't vote for the bad stuff. So he's totally innocent. He did only good things.
“I wasn’t going to kill the whole bill” is the new “I was just following orders”
While they killed bills for adding 4 billion to houses for the homeless or stuff like that. But of course when Democrats want to help someone it's straight to trash for them.
Astronaut spy: always has been
Doesn't he have staffers who read the whole bill and highlight things in the bill they feel he would be in favor of or object to? That's what competent members of Congress do.
I remember Republicans and corporate media blasting then Speaker Pelosi for saying the following about the Affordable Care Act "We'll have to past the bill, to find out what's in it".
This always blew my mind. Winnings in Canada are tax free.
Like being "a little pregnant", he didn't vote for the parts of the bill he didn't like, he only voted for the parts he did like.
The perils of putting everything in one bill as demanded by the WH.
Thing is.. this sort of thing is really just a smokescreen. It lets them pretend they were against individual elements of the bill that they know their constituents would oppose, by giving them the excuse that they had to vote for the whole bill if they wanted the handful of things they like
“Just blindly following fascist orders, gave up any semblance of a spine when I entered politics”
Honestly, I think the only way that politicians who want to get rid of porkfatting is if they refuse to vote for any bill that has any amount of porkfatting in it. Make it so that the only way Bill's get passed is when they focus on only a single issue
plausible deniability?
Wonder if any of them bothered to read project 2025. That should have been mandatory!
So you voted for it.
Fuck these nazis.
I voted for passage of the bill not for the things in it.
It always applies when the other party is in power that you give them time to do that
"I didn't care what was in the bill. I will suffer anything and hurt anyone to advance Trumps agenda." Is how they all function. It is compulsion, not reason.
The cover page said everything I need to know about this bill We're good !
To paraphrase Nancy Reagan: just say “no” to omnibus bills, especially if it’s too difficult for you to read them.
Same as it ever was...
So he doesn't understand that if he votes for the bill he actually does vote for everything in it? Home schooled?
It was read to them. Democrats requested the entire bill be read on the floor before the vote.
plausible deniability
Why read it when they have been told to just go along with even the worse impulses Trump has! 😡
🤫
The Democrats read the full bill, out loud on the house floor for all to hear, and you know who didn't stay to hear it? The fk'ing Republicans!!
They still think ignorance is bliss.
As is taking responsibility for your actions.
This whole "I'm not going to kill the whole bill" over horrendous aspects of it is ridiculous. They don't get to act like they don't support it now.
Cowards.
When we finally reform the entire government, one of the rules we need to establish is that bills can only do ONE thing, not multiple unrelated thing. And they should have a length limit.
These fools need to stop voting for stuff they have not fully read or understood. These bills are not 7 day free trials to streaming services. You can't just click and agree and hope people don't notice.
Rubber stamp autopen indeed. "Every accusation is a confession."
They do have the ability to take stuff out, or you're not signing. "I'm sorry constituents, I'm just a helpless congress person with no power of my own" should be reason enough to vote them out.
This nitwit is the embarrassment of the state congressional delegation...
Gee, last time I checked, Congress members can add amendments to bills or strip out specific things they don't like....
Reading anything beyond social media posts isn't done. Probably why they killed PBS.
