One of the problems with PBS is that unless you have cable in a rural area it isn't seen. And a lot of rural areas have no cable either which means they don't have internet either unless they now have at least 4g cell.

I grew up on all of these shows including the Electric Company and Reading Rainbow. My kids raced home from school to watch Arthur. I don’t understand why for years these shows were perfectly fine for generations of kids and all of a sudden they’re not. Teaching kids kindness and acceptance is bad?

I totally would have watched these as a kid, but I predate them. I grew up watching Captain Kangaroo and Shari Lewis. I miss them both, and especially their sidekicks Bunny Rabbit and Lamb Chop.

Please give what you can even if it is a dollar per month. Public TV & Radio is the voice of the nation. They are the only one trusted way we can get information about natural disasters to disastrous presidents. Pleasr protect the voice of America!

All nations have a government funded nationwide PBS public broadcast TV channel & radio station. In Australia, it's ABC, it switches to the national public warning system with a wiring siren & message of the danger… cyclone etc. Julius Sumner Miller, Why Is It So? I grew up watching the magic school bus and Bill Nye. I got a book of Mr. Rodger quotes as an adult and despite never seeing the show I cherish it so much. So many important things and lessons to learn from public broadcasting 💙💙. Kids learn they are valued too.

It would seem that the rich would prefer that publicly available educational institutions were eliminated, restricting education to the rich, because an educated populous would prevent dictatorial lunatics out of power, bit late for the US now though...

Not only do they not want an educated population, they also don’t want an empathetic one. They want us easy to control, manipulate, and to hate the ‘right people’ to pursue their agendas. I also think wealthy people are pissed they have to compete with us poors. Education is the great equalizer.

Couldn't agree more. Sadly the American education system appears to me to below par listening to sone of those interviewed vis a vis the toddler's actions/plans.

And Nova, The Civil War, Monty Python, and so many great documentaries about everything. Of it makes sense the rapist and his cronies want it to go away; stupid people are their base.

My partner works in public television and they made major cuts yesterday. She was retained, but having gone through multiple layoffs myself, sometimes cut, sometimes retained I know it is a crappy day for everyone. Especially because these people are just trying to provide Quality TV for free.

But it costs money the billionaires can have.

PBS contributed so much enrichment to my sons life - so much so that Bill Nye and David Attenborough inspired him to become a conservation biologist who wants to save the world. There are so many PBS kids who are artists, or teachers, or firefighters for the same reason. All kids deserve to dream 💜

I've seen some political satire specials on PBS - maybe someone needs to see if they can work a deal with Colbert... That should light up the phone lines during the pledge weeks...

Literally every one of those was a part of my upbringing

My childhood predated PBS, so I never watched it growing up. I've seen bits and pieces from PBS over the years; enough to recognize it's a valuable resource for Americans and should be supported and sustained.

It is often the very best of us.
