Punctuation saves lives
Punctuation saves lives
George, I am so glad you've stuck with us here at bsky! I hope Rachel paired her meal with a nice chianti.
This is a great argument for using the Oxford comma.
The point I came here to make!
And they were all delicious
Yeah peeps I thought this was Noem
First time I laughed all week... thanks GT
An Oxford comma would only save the dog in this case. She also needs a straightforward, everyday comma.
Came here to say exactly this. In fact once you’ve got the ordinary comma the Oxford comma is redundant
For the sake of the family!
The dog more likely to give true love.
With a comma after cooking, there would be no danger to the dog or the family! No Oxford required.
And in this case, the penultimate comma, too.
No Oxford comma, ever 🤮 Just ONE comma after "cooking"
It has its place occasionally (but rarely). If a reader really thinks this headline refers to cooking dogs, I’d suggest s/he has bigger problems.
At least they didn’t bury the lead.
I photographed a cover for that magazine, once… and braced myself for the layout results😂
Tastes like chicken
their eating the families, their eating the dogs
And Trump blamed the Haitians in Ohio.
Some people believe that punctuation marks are optional.🙄
This is not an Oxford comma problem; it's a comma problem.
🤭
Punctuation should not add to word count ............................
Eats, shoots and leaves
They were delicious! 😌
Are you sure a comma helps? I've tried placing one after every word and there's no comma that really helps. The word "for" after "cooking" seems to be the right fix to me... [but that's just me, perhaps I'm reading with the wrong accent...-]
She doesn't care who knows
“They’re eating the dogs…they’re eating the family…”
I always thought she was an alien….
Never forget: www.vanityfair.com/culture/2010...
She’s just a panda …eats shoots and leaves
Commas matter!
Let’s just start with a regular comma. Then we can advance to Oxford.
Not just the Oxford comma, any comma at all. #AllCommasMatter
Inappropriate commantary!
Grammar saves lives
Punctuation the difference between knowing your shit and you're shit!
And, as is usual in these examples, there's a missing comma in my comment too. Fully compliant with grammar lore!
Oops.
Canine DNA, among others, was found in her Nutrish dog food… so this is pretty accurate
Maybe she's related to Kristi Noem.
That's not missing an Oxford comma, it's missing any punctuation at all. If we just added the Oxford comma, it would turn into "Rachel Ray finds inspiration in cooking her family, and her dog." Still not good.
🤭😂🤣😅
Explains her terrible cooking skills
😹😂🤣
commas save lives.
That's some incredible Peloton program she's on if she ate all that and didn't gain any weight.
Isn't this more like a comma reminder?
But... that's not even the Oxford Comma! They didn't use any commas. What the hell, Tails?!
My favorite things are my boyfriend eating out my sister and omitting commas.
Guilty!❤️
We had grandma for dinner She was very happy Seriously, AI will probably just kill us all Please Space aliens come and save us
If it was AI it would read: We had grandma for dinner–she was very happy.
Oh. My. Gawd!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 THAT'S a follow!!
If you think omitting commas is cool, ask the girl from the song "Come on, Eileen" how she would feel about it...
I hate you for implanting that mental image in my brain. But also applaud you for making a vital case for the Oxford comma.
You have made your case exceeding well. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🤣😂🤣😂
Another Alabama joke?
When I was once introduced as the Director of Training at a new company, I told the team, "We WILL use the Oxford comma and we WILL not use Comic Sans Serif. Beyond that, we'll figure out what needs to be done and get after it."
The excuses for not using Oxford comma are always lame, impractical, and wrong
Oxford comma, where are you when we need you 😂
“They are eating the dogs… they are eating their family…”
A good reminder about the value of a good editor. ...or. a good reminder that your editor is leaving because their salary is too low.
Yuck
I dunno, maybe she likes eating dogs and being a cannibal... 😂
Do we know how Noem disposed of her dog's body after shooting it?
Comfort Foods...
The "eats, shoots, and leaves" panda could give this article two commas.
Funny!
Hey, the family and the dog ain’t gonna cook themselves! 😄
It’s the old ‘commas save lives’ idiom! Example: Let’s eat, Grandma as opposed to Let’s eat Grandma.
Once more, users * the language bedeviled * the profusion * prepositions * our tongue. KEY: -of -by -of -in (Personally, were I crafting this cover, I’d have kept “for” and cut “in,” but it was probably AI generated.🤷🏼♀️)
Does she trade recipes with the Gnoem?
I don't think it isn't missing a comma, I think it is missing the word "for" just before "her family and her dog."
That old Oxford comma…
Well, at least he looked happy at the end. 😅 Note my exquisite grammar George.
Did she use her EVOO?
It's not a periodc reminder; it's a commaetic reminder.
Commas are important. 😉
Hope they were tasty.
Seems to me to be a general reminder to use commas, not only the Oxford comma (which I tend to not use).
She's eating the dogs!
Hahaha!!
...it is a unique experience. esp. as the director went on to do the Lord of the Rings movies!
Peter Jackson did some excellent gore/horror stuff in his "earlier" years! Never watched that one, so thanks!
oh. braindead is superb. i won't even preface it... you'll love it!!!
I dry heaved in the movie theater during the dinner scene. It was awesome. My favorite Peter Jackson movie by far!
oh, the ear and the earring... it's a singular movie.
i never looked at the muppets the same way after "meet the feebles", but braindead... yeah.
Meet the Feebles is a fucking classic. Watched it in the mid 90's as a teenager and we laughed our arses off. Dunno why, but we never thought to actually look up who made it and watch his other movies back then.
I haven't heard of it. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the recommendation
"It's time for some divine intervention..."
We should all pause to reflect.
You said it George. 😀
Doesn't even need an Oxford variety. A plain one after cooking would have been enough.
Is she in Ohio now?
That needs more than a comma.
But she could live in Springfield, Ohio where people eat the dogs, or so we've been told.
A preposition (for) is needed here.
Had to get through hard times somehow
commas are important
Even Kristi Noem didn't think of this
Despite my ubiquitous typos here (edit feature🙏), I miss basic grammar and punctuation. Still, it's pretty funny when it goes awry 😁.
All at once?
Haha
I suspect a comma after cooking has been photoshopped out.
even better would be if her dog's name was Ray.
Well they're all made of the same thing so equally edible...
Remember Rachel, when you taste dog, it's a moment on the lips and a lifetime on the hips! 😋
Using any comma would be helpful...
A case for the Oxford comma.
LOL!!!
Giving Kristi Noem vibes here
She’d be so upset to be associated with her. She’s actually a huge animal lover.
Solely playing off the poorly punctuated headline, which is the gyst of George's post
Let's eat Grandma! Let's eat, Grandma! Woman without her man is nothing. Woman: without her, man is nothing.
I think it's a comma reminder
I don’t mean to be argumentative but the (useless) Oxford comma wouldn’t have helped. A regular old fashioned comma would have solved the problem but no Oxford comma is necessary.
*after the word “cooking”. Just to be clear…
A simple comma after ‘cooking’ would do. No need for the Oxford comma.
A comma after “cooking” is all that’s needed.
It certainly gives one pause.
Ha,ha. What we need is a “pause.”
She's eating the paws
quite punctual, too
Grammar still matters, even while democracy crumbles.
Comma wouldn’t have saved this. Poor Rachel
So many questions, so little answers. Does she cook them separately? Or just throws the meat in one giant pot? Ah well, inspiration is hard to come by…
If we're being all English grammarian/pedant, it's "so FEW answers."
No it's missing the word "for" because even with a comma it still doesn't read correctly. Should read more like "Rachel Ray finds inspiration in cooking for her family and her dog"
Use the non-Oxford comma too, unless you're a cannibal.
Which Rachel, was it really a mistake?
