Zoos should be banned. If the argument in favour of zoos is for preservation of species, there are far better approaches than placing animals in what are essentially prisons. While I'm at it, NOBODY should keep ANY BIRD in a cage. The sale & breeding of captive birds should be banned. It's cruel!

One of the questions is, what's their definition of humanely euthanized? Drugs would be passed on to the animal consuming it. It's a bad look. In Europe, a zoo killed a giraffe and fed it to their predators. Another just killed 12 baboons. They control the breeding, there shouldn't be excess animals

What is the difference between purchasing and donating small animals for the predators? I don't like it either way. But if you are going to have predators in the zoo, you need to feed them. Maybe dried food is available. So donate some bags of that.

I was in Denmark this week. They only want farm animals. They do NOT want your dog or guinea pig. And they’ve done this for years.

I don't like zoos but when our horse was shot I was pleased that his body went to feed tigers. Made a very sad situation less awful.

I mean... the animals it lists are farm animals, rabbits and guinea pigs. As someone who raises animals to eat on my homestead I thought the post was appropriate and in service of the well being of their carnivore charges who they want to help thrive.

I don't like animal cruelty, but carnivore animals must eat meat to thrive. And hunting instincts are baked in, so enrichment activities are also often needed for their health.

I once had rabbits I was promised by the breeder were dwarf rabbits. They weren't. They hated every second of being around people, and lived life terrified, so I made the difficult decision to call a friend who had a farm. Told them that if they made stew, I didn't want to know about it...

...thankfully, as he was bringing the rabbits onto the farm to wait until suppertime, his granddaughter saw them and that was that. They lived out their long happy lives as breeding rabbits. While this was my last option, it didn't make me a monster to spare a couple of rabbits a life of misery.

While I understand the logic on a purely scientific level, the emotional impact is horrible. Yes, the zoo animals are predators and obligate carnivores and, yes, there are always going to be some pet owners needing to “put down” animals for any number of reasons, BUT the problem is this: 1/

Those pet owners want their beloveds to go quickly, peacefully, and in very little pain. That is not guaranteed when a zoo makes use of an animal for a predator’s cuisine. These owners know that and they’re not going to cooperate with zookeepers. I can’t say I blame them. It’s ghoulish.
