It's a sad chapter, but in any case most of the high steel guys in the northeast were Kanien'kehá:ka (Mohawk) so their voting rights, if any, were going to be in Canada. (Some exceptions in upstate NY.) Up here, they could not vote until 1960, except in rare cases.

I know a civil engineer who was heavily involved in the building of Canada's CN Tower in the 1970s. He had all sorts of praise about the Mohawks who worked on the tower. They were great with the heights, worked hard, and worked on all sorts of high rise projects.
