Personally, I think that from ‘A Momentary Lapse of Reason’ onwards, Pink Floyd's albums started to have much less interesting lyrics and more mainstream music...

Well sure, the songwriter changed, so the tone and the meaning changed. But IMO it made the band far more approachable, relevant and mainstream (in a good way). Also the music itself got SO much better. Sonically speaking, all of the band's best songs came after Waters left.

Everything from 1983 and earlier is heavily 'dated' sonically, it SOUNDS old and outdated. Most songs from 1984 onward still holds up to this day and could have easily been recorded last year. I will grant a few didn't age well, like A Great Day For Freedom and High Hopes.
