An American story A father diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, apparently leading to the mother having to embezzle money to pay for treatment ending in the death of the mother, father and two children because a gun was available but no help. #nhpolitics www.crimeonline.com/2025/08/29/r...

Be careful with this - early indications are she was stealing prior to his diagnosis, not as a result of it.

I'm not sure how much that changes the American-ness of the story TBH. It just diminishes the sympathy one might feel for one out of four of the victims.

There’s some who want to mold her into a Luigi Mangione-esque narrative about healthcare costs, I don’t think that’s going to fit here.

I don't think Hollywood prepared Americans to process stories that have no heroes. Just villains and victms.

I was thinking more Walter White than Luigi Mangione

My wife had metastatic melanoma and the only courseopen wasan experimental drug that cost 160k per dose. Yes that much. There was about a 3% chance the drug could kill her and it did after three doses. That 401k you have, you won't have it anymore after paying your medical bills. I stopped counting.

People have no idea of the hell they will go through if they are diagnosed with a deadly disease. My wife went through melanoma and the n ovarian cancer before the melanoma returned and killed her. We had a a substantial 401k account but had to beg to take money out of it to pay medical bills.
