hey @housedemocrats.bsky.social Time for a General Strike?
hey @housedemocrats.bsky.social Time for a General Strike?
DJT will come after all unions in 'Murica.
More than ever
Everyone calls in sick for 2 days. No cars on the roads, no fuel purchased, no grocery shopping, etc... #nothing
I would but I'm retired. I show my support by yelling at the TV. And boy do I talk some shit.
Past time
lol, Americans can barely muster much more than the odd weekend protest, let alone a general strike. When trade unions were strong the people could have a general strike because they had cover for their lost income; now that unions are so weak, there’s no chance whatsoever.
grim
Yep, it is.
Instantaneous repost🤓
It will happen without official leadership. They are way too entrenched in Israel bullshit and trading stocks.

SHUT IT DOWN! youtu.be/Tr6Mu_6wn44?...
for real

yes, it is the only non violent solution. France 1995: 3 weeks of massive strikes=pension reform withdrawn. Iceland 1975: 90% of women on strike=faster equality pay laws. India 2021: 1 year of farmers’ strikes=laws repealed. South Korea 1996: national strike against labor reform=law renegotiated.
Nice sounding idea, but unrealistic. Too many Americans are already having difficulty getting their bills paid every month & can't afford to not show up for work. The system's been skewed toward the wealthy for a long time in this country & a general strike isn't something they have to worry about.
understood but as many who can should and only purchase necessities boycotts work look at the hit tesla took
Yes, I'm all for boycotts. Target same store sales are down b/c they capitulated to Trump on DEI. Costco's aren't, because they didn't. Costco said their DEI effort makes a better work force & customers like it. But you asked about a general strike. Unfortunately, "as many as can" isn't very much.
Is there a General Strike being bandied about for September 7? There are independent organizations with various actions bringing disparate people together but, I’ve only seen small shoots of activity recently. Can we nationalize under one large umbrella? Israeli citizens seemed to have done so.
Way, way past time for one
Yes
Way past time!!
Thats the answer well said
It's past time, but the ugly truth is your average worker simply can't risk losing hours or their job. This regime has stacked the odds in their favor and can do a lengthy holdout. Families can't . It's a risk many can't take.
understood but as many who can and only purchased necessities boycotts work as well look at the hit tesla took
Sadly, the greatest obstacle to this is wage slavery. It is the harsh reality check on the relativity of freedom. The strike needs to start incrementally and demand iron will. That will doesn’t seem present at the moment. If democracy is lost, the price will be far greater than a national strike.
Agreed
My husband keeps saying, “General Strike!” Or, we stop funding the red states until they take the military out of blue states. Because I don’t want my taxes paying for this garbage.
How would you stop funding red states?
Hmmm. Guess you’re going to need to do some research.
I'm as stridently anti-MAGA & as concerned about the collapse of our Constitutional democratic experiment as anyone. AND I fully appreciate that blue America, on balance, is supporting red America in terms of taxation and revenue. But I also don't see a viable way of withholding that funding.
It was a rhetorical question. It can’t happen.
Obviously, it can happen. There are no rules anymore, and if this idiot administration can find every loophole, I’m certain we could find some too. Think outside the box. Blue states are major contributors of funding to red states.
You bet, maga man.
We should have had one years ago.
Can people afford to strike? Will people not in unions lose their jobs?
Join one of the general strike groups. There's a belief there's a certain number of people that need to participate to make it work, and we're not there yet. Also, doesn't help to put your local coffee shop out of business unless they donate to MAGA, so not really a "general" strike
“There is NO Epstein list” - Ghislaine Maxwell Well Ghislaine, when you take all the rich and powerful people who regularly spent time with Epstein on his island, planes, boats parties etc and write them all down on a piece of paper… That’s the #EpsteinList . Hope this helps. #PEDO #FuckTrump
Yes. Beyond time. If the unions could get together and support us, we could shut this shit show down in a month.
a week
Yes. This. The simplest solutions are always the most effective.
Yes, absolutely, as an action that many of us have been working towards, as the most powerful resistance possible to a regime that will do ANYTHING to continue to wrest their Profits form all of us Without our cooperation, their money dries up Stop business-as-usual
We need to be more prepared for an extended general strike. People will lose their jobs, get evicted, go hungry, etc. We need to build strong support networks first, and unfortunately we are just not there yet. That's what the protests are ultimately for, building community support networks.
Just do it. No need to wait for politicians.
Past time.
It’s almost as if the Dems in DC are already on strike—they’re certainly not doing much of anything.
a strike would actually be doing something
YES
They don’t have the ‘nads to send out the call. @democrats.org @housedemocrats.bsky.social @democrats.senate.gov @glennkirschner.bsky.social @morgfair.bsky.social @muellershewrote.com @sykescharlie.bsky.social @therealjackhopkins.bsky.social @theoriginaltomjoad.bsky.social
YES! Is a little late, but not too late. I hope everyone understands it. It will save us a much higher cost. Thank you for your message.
YES
Strike now or civil war later . . . decisions, decisions.
We could do both. I'm down to clown.
"I'm down to clown" Clever
Well, hey! The alternative is to keep eating the shit sandwich they're serving until it's your turn at the death camp.
Exactly
What exactly would this accomplish? House rules only require 218 to have a quorum. Every Democrat could go to Illinois and hang out by the pool with Pritzker and it would do is speed up the legislative process because Dems wouldn’t be there to force debate and add stupid amendments.
Yes.
Yes please
Ain't it funny how ⌚ slips away?
They at the lake right now..leave a message

Any general strike would be led by, say, unions, not by members of Congress who are sworn to uphold the law. (The law doesn't allow political strikes.) It would also take months of careful organizing. "Everyone stay home" is just a recipe for chaos and misery as essential jobs don't get done.
