Can I just weigh in as an elementary educator for nearly 40 years? Not once have I had the opportunity or need to read a book about two mommies or two daddies to my class. I’ve been too busy teaching your children to read, write and do math. You’re welcome.

Maybe one day you'll evolve your teaching method of "Learning to Read" to the more advanced "Reading to Learn." After all, that's what it's really about, isn't it?

We already have comprehension questions that kindergarteners have to answer at the end of a reading passage. Learning to read, then reading to learn, and more! It’s a lot!

Answering comprehension questions is simply another facet of learning to read. Reading to learn incorporates critical thinking, analysis, evaluation, and access to/of factual and historical information/knowledge.

Girl, that ain't a bad of honour. You seen global rank in math and STEM? Ax somebody. I bet you still use Ebonics as the label for all 'bad' English.

If you're quibling about budgeting the time available to teach, and don't see an inherent problem in the time alloted for active shooter drills, or the need for them, because you're too incensed by a pair of gay penguins, you failed the test.

I’m on your side. My comment was meant sarcastically. I, too, am horrified by the need for active shooter drills and the attack on DEI.

What are you trying to say? Comes off anti LGBTQ but I don’t think that’s what you’re going for. You know the tweet you replied to wasn’t serious right?

I fully get the tongue-in-cheek original post. Sorry if my sarcasm didn’t come through. The attack on DEI is nauseating and sad for our country.

But you probably have read plenty of books with a mom and dad, haven’t you? So what’s the issue?

When you were teaching those children to read, what sort of stories did you read? Fairy tales? Stories about families? Tales about moms and dads? Because you definitely did have the opportunity to teach more inclusive stories.

My point was that the right’s imaginary need to attack educators for explicitly indoctrinating children (about anything) was a ridiculous, manufactured problem created to fit their narrative. We are in classrooms busy teaching children all subjects, including inclusivity of all people. Full stop.
