I’m not rly sure how one gets around that when they homeschool kids. I recognize that it’s personal, so please feel free to not share, but: how do you think that isolation affected you?

Well my situation was somewhat unique. My mother didn’t homeschool me for religious reasons - I think she was trying to protect me from other kids, and an educational system that often fails children with learning disabilities. She didn’t discourage me from having my own opinions outside the house.

However, she was incredibly controlling at home, and she successfully convinced me that she was my only resource for food, money, education, and overall care - often an accurate sign of emotional abuse. I was terrified of most other children, so I had very few strong friendships in my childhood -

As an adult, I struggle to initiate and maintain friendships and relationships, and I self-isolate in response to depression and anxiety. Part of this is just me being a bit autistic, but I think my childhood plays a large role.

Perhaps that’s TMI, but I’m not uncomfortable talking about it lol

Eh, there are others who had it worse. I’m just glad she wasn’t religious. That would have been awful lol
