I'm convinced that this — more than legislation or court rulings — is the way to beat AI. If it fails as a product, makes nothing for its investors because it sucks and people flat out refuse to use it, it will quickly go the way of New Coke and the Edsel.

Don't get me wrong -- let's do legislation and court rulings too! But I really think that the thing that will kill it is the public's rigid unwillingness to adopt it, and that's something all of us can contribute to directly.

Agreed. Part of it is how it seems like a bunch of billionaires / hangers-on just decided that we’re going to get AI - whether we want it or not the other part is we see it has really bad impacts: it steals content & passes it as its own & it consumes huge amounts of power & water. Not. Worth. It.

Right! I think we still have enough functioning capitalism that bad products that don't work and aren't worth the cost will actually fail, no matter how much they're hyped.

Like “wow, climate change is getting really bad really quickly” and then “let’s force this thing on society that consumes huge amounts of energy and fresh water” Well, no. Fck you

Artificial Intelligence is also an environmental nightmare. Think about how much power AI requires. Think about how much water is needed to keep systems cool. OTP vp

I wonder if Americans will also notice their electric bills going up and up, due to the enormous energy demand from artificial intelligence (AI) data centers.

AI isn’t going away even if it’s rejected broadly by the public. It will continue to exist and be leveraged for more nefarious purposes.
