the NYC subway has 4 million daily riders. 4 million. 4 million people. shut up with your bogeymen and your sad scare mongering. Anyone running for municipal office in NYC who runs on “the subway is scary” is automatically disqualified and anyone else who uses this talking point is an idiot

“4 million people do a thing every day that I’m scared to do” is not the flex you think it is

Everyone knows there’s only two things to avoid on the subway - an empty car, and Improv Anywhere

TBF, it’s about 3 million men, women and children on weekdays; 4 million on weekends. And the subways are a hell of a lot safer today than when I rode them to HS every day.

Like if once in a while there is some asshole driving on the highway like an asshole and people fear mongering it.

Literal unaccompanied children ride the subway to school every day Cuomo. I think your adult daughter will be just fine.

As a tourist in New York I was impressed. I rode the subway all over the place. It felt like an extension of the sidewalk

I had to live in North Carolina for a year, and quickly moved to Chicago. Getting on the Red Line for the first time was a kiss from civilization.

Subway safety is such an obvious stand in for what the elite think the plebs want to hear. No one screeching about it really cares about the issue or has a plan to do anything meaningful, but they dont have any other plans to help regular people so they go w that.

Just remember to never get on an empty car, either the AC is broken or something nasty is going on inside (odor wise)

I’m also trying to imagine someone running for mayor of Paris or Berlin or Amsterdam or Toronto or Montreal on a platform of being scared of the subway, utter loser behavior

I can think of some Toronto mayors that for sure never set foot on the subway, but even they had the sense not to be like "TTC TERROR!!!"

These people are stuck in 70s-80s NYC cesspool of Travis Bickle, Bernard Goetz, and Charles Bronson. The irony is many of these people weren't even born yet or too small to know.
