TBF, it’s about 3 million men, women and children on weekdays; 4 million on weekends. And the subways are a hell of a lot safer today than when I rode them to HS every day.

As a tourist in New York I was impressed. I rode the subway all over the place. It felt like an extension of the sidewalk
I had to live in North Carolina for a year, and quickly moved to Chicago. Getting on the Red Line for the first time was a kiss from civilization.
Subway safety is such an obvious stand in for what the elite think the plebs want to hear. No one screeching about it really cares about the issue or has a plan to do anything meaningful, but they dont have any other plans to help regular people so they go w that.

I can think of some Toronto mayors that for sure never set foot on the subway, but even they had the sense not to be like "TTC TERROR!!!"
These people are stuck in 70s-80s NYC cesspool of Travis Bickle, Bernard Goetz, and Charles Bronson. The irony is many of these people weren't even born yet or too small to know.
