My 25+ year Toyota Corolla Era is ending. Iβm looking for an affordable used Subaru so I have AWD for our first North Country winter. (Welcome to the snowiest part of the USA π€£π) We will see how that goes. 2/2

I love my Subaru Forester 2009 model so much I didn't sell it when I got the 2020 model. Still got it, and it's out and about quite often, it's our loaner, and a lot of people find themselves in need of it's services. Just got it back, actually =)
Be aware that older Subarus (15+ years or so) had head gasket issues. Great cars but do your research before buying. We bought an Outback new 10 years ago, only new car we've ever bought, been solid and reliable
Thank you so much for this. That is helpful. So far, the ones in my price range appear to be in about the 2014-2018 model year range. (Although there is a 2011 I really like the look of if itβs still there when I go in person.)
I'm just an internet rando to you, but I help w/ car shopping as a side gig* & can advise remotely. For best long-term reliability, you may also want to avoid the turbo models, esp if you don't need or care that much about horsepower things. *not asking for pymnt. A gift on behalf of Flower.
Yes, thank you. Iβve seen vehicles that say turbo and my immediate reaction was that I donβt need a turbo. I go slow and cautious. I just need something safe and reliable.
(I'm good at combing thru a listing's pics to look for concerns and can often chase down a car's CarFax without additional costs. Feel free to DM me w/ any listing of a car you're considering for a second set of eyes on it. π)
Ours is a 2014. Burns a little oil, but nothing worth worrying about. If you get one with a moon roof be aware that they have little drain holes at the front that can get plugged, causing an over-flow leak; a long wire works to clear them. I will say that replacing the headlights is stupid difficult
This is good to know. Thank you.
This one? watertown.craigslist.org/ctd/d/philad...
No. There is a used car dealer in Watertown Iβm looking at. I donβt feel savvy enough to do a private sale.
Iβm glad you have a convenient place. Note that the ad I sent is for βLafave Motor Salesβ in Philadelphia NY, which is about 20 miles from Watertown. Craigslist has a lot of dealer ads as well as by owner. My brother loved Subarus when he lived in New Hampshire.
Thank you for that. I appreciate it.
Ya know, was just thinking that totalling your car at the time u did means u have truly disappeared to the evil ones. Even if they happened to drive past new house so far away, they would not know. Maybe even licence plate is new. Sad but slick job, Rachel! Breathe deep! But sad fur ol car..sniff.
Yes. I am getting new plates when I get a new car. The front one on my car was demolished in the crash. I have whatβs left of it, though. New York is strict on their license plates and I will have to turn them in to DMV once things are sorted so I donβt get fined π€£π
Wow. Soo sad. Mourning yer cat, yer good ol' car, and moving in such a manner is too much for one person at once. Gentle hugs and head butts! But disappearing like that does have tiny blessings.
Good excuse to cuddle up with the cats ππ₯°
Obvs itβs model dependant but here in the U.K. Subarus are associated with crazy high petrol consumption. So plz factor in the MPG xx
Thank you for letting me know. Yes, I am noticing a difference in listed gas mileage for the Subarus compared to Toyotas. Sophie was still getting just over 40 mpg highway. π
I also think that Subarus recommend premium gas.
Good to know
Bad news about the car but VERY happy to know you've moved!!!
