I'm not trying to start shit or whatever, this is just the type of inconsistency I get very easily frustrated by—the willful denial of objective reality where the discomfort of rocking the boat is a far worse and more objectionable act than any *actual* violence and horror.
As ever, neoliberalism is infinitely less hostile to actors of mass violence than it is to those who would threaten to upset the imbalance of power by calling out that mass violence. Asking the hands on the levers of capital to recognize reality as such is far worse than any genocide, etc.
I spoke with someone at a major games media outlet this weekend who is fighting like hell inside that machine to get human rights respected over ad traffic. So when an indie outlet that has full control over their own output just shrugs in indifference, I just... Man.
genuine question: do you think the boycott should extend to games like doom and quake even though there are a million ways to play them without ever touching microsoft services
like if i use gzdoom to play doom2.wad or quakespasm to play quake or whatever, is that still a violation?
That's not what's in the boycott, or what they're calling for. They're asking for people to stop subscribing to Game Pass and buying new games published by Xbox. No one is harmed by playing Mechassault or mapping in Trenchbroom lol. As long as you're not like, buying Doom and Quake new right now.
Anyway, all that to say, so long as you're not just now for the first time purchasing Doom, Quake, Hexen, Heretic, etc on a digital storefront, you're totally clear. The goal is to block up the cash flow feeding Azure, which is what Israel is using to kill people.
So yeah dawg if you wanna rock Quakespasm, go nuts! I'm more of a chocolateDOOM guy but gzdoom ain't feedin a war machine, all clear there.
