What we lack sufficient evidence if is “consciousness”. We can’t yet detect what we subjectively experience. Some scientists think that that means its an illusion, rather than admitting they just don’t know. It doesn’t mean we have to resort to magic. 🤷
For me, calling spiritual beliefs magic is derogatory. I've made my point that on some level we all resort to belief to explain the things which have no proof. I'm a firm believer in science but appreciate its limitations. Some push it to where it is just another belief system.
I'm not specifically talking about spiritual beliefs. But science doesn't require belief: If you disbelieve in electricity, does the light fail to turn on at the switch? If you disbelieve in exothermic reactions, does you car fail to start? Does your coffee machine require a belief in convection?
There are gaps in our knowledge obviously, but the scientific response is: "I lack the data to form a hypothesis" The moment you resort to belief, you aren't doing science anymore. 🤷
Agreed. I speak to the current popular movement to bash religion as the cause of all political ills. This guy basically tries to use science and the mind to make his point. I'm showing there isn't even a valid "theory" in the direction he's pointing and is equally just belief.
