my personal recommendation is to play the vanilla-ish game until you're bored with it, THEN do the overhaul mods. but thats just my opinion. i have 1,831 hrs in Rimworld. lol

I've got 100 hours using only QoL stuff, but it's been a few years. I never bought any of the DLCs or used mods that add significantly new things.
i'd highly recommend all of the DLCs... but the latest, Odyssey, is a masterpiece. Anomaly is probably the most skippable. Biotech is damn useful.
They've always been too pricey for me to justify since I haven't gotten heavily into the game. Like the mechanics look cool, but when the mod quality is so high it's a tougher sell.
Total Warhammer spoiled me with all those $10 lord packs that kept adding increasingly complex stuff.
