Potential 2028 candidates, including Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, have descended on South Carolina in recent weeks to preview their campaign messages.
Strong, good candidate as would be Gov. Pritzger of Illinois. Not Newsome though...he's too focused on just getting in the white house.
Maybe he should be introducing himself to the police force of Covington, KY instead.
Ky is gop controlled. Andy has done everything he can.
He’s the governor, the highest member of the Executive branch. His place is on the ground there.
Why wouldn’t Beshear consider running for McConnell’s seat when his is up?
That's the problem right there. That the first state Democrats have to go through is a state none of them will win in the general. Progressive candidates have zero shot.
May I give you this one as well?
I accept all 🫶chillin in Cedar Rapids 🫶
Yeah, because the safe bet worked last time.
How about an all-Georgia ticket: Jon Ossoff/Sally Yates? Or Chris Murphy/Jon Ossoff
Democrats, always fools, holding their most important quadrennial primary election in the Trumpiest red state of all, the one that started the Civil War. A state they have no chance of winning any state-wide election.
The next crop of crooks, grifters & parasites, coming right up.
I don't think @stephencolbert.bsky.social had POTUS on his bingo card, but I'm in. Anyone who watched during @stephenathome.bsky.social saw someone real humanity. He also has demonstrated a wealth of knowledge beyond many currently serving. He also just seems to be a good human. #Colbert2028
We could easily do worse, while it would be difficult to do better. The left leaning people I want won't or can't run. I trust Colbert's Catholic guilt would force his hand to actually do the right thing more often than not.
I find the Democratic bench, outside of AOC, completely uninspiring. Some new names, preferably some relative outsiders uninfected by donors and consultants, would be great.
AOC is a Zionist genocide-supporter who votes to send weapons to Israel. No thanks
I find the opposite. All are immensely more qualified than any Republican out there. It’s about elevating the whole country and everyone on the bench is ready to do that. Stop down talking Democrats.
"democrats have a huge opportunity to seize the middle and win back voters who have been increasingly skeptical of our democratic brand." -beshear, echoing the losing strategy from 2024. fanfuckintastic.
Beshear/Pritzker
all in:
Beshear might actually be the strongest Democratic candidate in 2028.
I would hope, but I'll bet he wouldn't even win kentucky when they get through working him over.
He has much less to work over than Newsome, Buttigieg or Kamala Harris.
I would tend to agree, but in a red state they have a lot more options at their disposal.
A good guy.
Why would South Carolina be the arbiter for anything democracy related
I like Gov. Andy Beshear, but let's face it, West Virginia is STILL 49th and 50th in just about everything. Yes, I KNOW Oklahoma, Mississippi and Arkansas are fighting for 50th place, but all I see Beshear bringing is 50th place for everyone.
Because Black people, and it’s the first state of the primary now…
Idk how we expect to have elections when they can clearly cheat. Report on that. Bet you won't youtu.be/7kNAbMuSB0c

If they don’t come out endorsing the democratic nominee for mayor of NYC, they aren’t going to be in a position to win the general.
All they need to do is just say “New York City Democrats are Democrats too, and they can elect who they like, you may not agree with them but we can all still be Democrats.” Not hard.
Apparently it's very difficult for them to manage to do
National Democrats accuse progressives of being exclusionary and imposing purity tests but literally that is what they do
That's because most of them aren't progressives, they're just slightly less right than conservatives, but not by much
I’m open to hearing most candidates out except one’s that willingly associate with Steve Bannon and Charlie Kirk when they think it is politically relevant.
live pic of Gavin Newsom
Kentucky’s red voters are already coming up with trash. And I mean literal trash. All the while they won’t acknowledge the orange shit piling up in their own yards.
If history is any guide Clyburn will give the vote to Rahm Emanuel.
Run Andy run. Clinton in 2028
Gov. Beshear is impressive. I put him in a top category with Gov. Pritzker. Thier styles are different. Gov. Pritzker has a fighting spirit and Beshear sounds firm but steady. The next Democratic President needs to be fearless to fix & reinstitute what the Authoritarians will have destroyed.
Absolutely fr
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏👏👏👏⭐️⭐️⭐️
I still do not understand why Buttigieg did not cultivate a strong relationship with the black community in South Bend. Imagine if he had scores of black residents cutting commercials for him, appearing with him, etc. He had an incredible opportunity that he did not capitalize on.
You don't know what you're talking about. Black residents in South Bend did record testimonials about why they support Pete: x.com/wintheera/st...
Hi @nerdypursuit.bsky.social Majority of folks here won't click on the x link... If it's a video, try YT ie youtu.be/GyYelYJj7PM?...
He did and he had, including community leaders campaigning in SC. The media ignored all of it. His mistake, if you can call it so, was waiting to use any endorsement until his successor had been elected and there couldn't be any appearance of him using his position as mayor to ask for favors.
He seems like an incredibly intelligent empathetic politician. Gifted even. But missing that moment was huge and shows that he was not the political athlete that he needed to be. Newsom, Shapiro, Whitmer would not have made that mistake.
It's doubtful that it would have made any difference. The media was determined to run with their narrative and deliberately silenced his Black supporters anyway. That said, he is who and where he is *because* he does what he thinks is *right* even when it might hurt his political career.
FYI Pete received the endorsement of the State, the biggest newspaper in South Carolina, for the 2020 Primary. They praised his outreach to Blacks. www.thestate.com/opinion/arti...
But look at the data!!! Black Democrats in SC did not support him. Remember the switch during 2008 when the Black Democrats in SC switched to Obama from Clinton. Obama needed that switch. That is what Buttigieg needed and did not get.
I haven't heard a single Dem actually presenting the policy needed to meet the moment: $30 fed minimum wage, abolishing electoral college, imprisoning anyone in the fascist Trump regime including ICE agents, etc. Dems are bringing a water gun to put out a nuclear holocaust.
abolishing the electoral college would require a constitutional amendment running on the position to mass incarcerate the former administration's workers just incentivizes mass presidential pardons the day before presidents step down
None of those things can be done without a supermajority or full amendments.
Not even a Nerf one.
Sheeple sheepling…
Nobody cares about 2028
We do not need 3 year election cycles. 🙄
Just another white guy, time for a change, can we finally get a woman president?
I'd love to see a woman in charge, but I'll settle for a human
You’ve had 2 chances. Both rejected.
If that’s all you care about then that explains why we don’t have one. You have to run on more than being a woman or being the first *insert physical trait here,* which seems to be a common trend whenever they run.
They are acting like it is business as usual.
Go Andy!!!
Love Andy as governor. But he’s as charismatic as a wet rag. He won because his opponents were just too evil to ignore, unfortunately. He’s done a great job though.
Earlier, I posted my firm endorsement of Pete Buttigieg’s running - posting a litany of reasons as to why I feel so strongly. What I didn’t include was that he also represents Next Gen which I believe is of tremendous importance.
Pete Buttigieg! His resume is lengthy & incredibly diverse. He readily acknowledges past mistakes, both of which have been an integral part of his personal & prof evolution. Pragmatic, highly intelligent, calm, good listener to both sides = positive known quantity. Minimal intro needed
Give it up. There is no way an openly gay man will win in the US.
I am not a prophet but I must say - this sounds remarkably similar to the pre-Obama days
God forbid you accept reality
You saw them put trump in TWICE so they wouldn't have to vote for a woman..
Precisely, but they will totally vote for the wholly unqualified gay dude! 🤦♀️
Please explain the parameters of being “unqualified” and “qualified” that you use. Understandably, you believe that women candidates have been discredited based largely on their gender. With that in mind, it is curious that the prime adjective you use for P. Buttigieg is “gay”.
PS I AM QUEER so stop jumping conclusions that have zero justification. I am a women, I voted for women in the primaries and the elections and got Führer Yam Tits instead.
Your orientation makes no difference as I don’t think it should about anyone which is exactly my point. . I only wish to know the parameters that you use to determine who is “unqualified” v “qualified”.
You accused me with weaselly insinuation that I’m homophobic is what! I expect a candidate to have won statewide office & federal office at least 2 terms. South Bend Mayorship was around 8,000 votes, & a cabinet appointment is zero votes. You need to prove you can win votes, his primary run says NO!
I was not jumping to conclusions. If I had, I wouldn’t have asked you anything. One side of my family immigrated & homesteaded over 130 yrs ago in the mid-west (MN). I oversee farmland which provides a 1st hand look at the culture & social temp. Very conservative. Majority 60+. Male. Pro-Pete.
What does NOT being an immigrant mean? I, too live in Minnesota, in a suburban that’s more diverse than most of the country! It doesn’t make me qualified to assess anything, my active participation in for 40 years in electoral politics with the DFL, voting & civic engagement do.
No, if you lack the ability to understand what is required to be President that’s not my problem. His work as a consultant for McKinsey with Loblaw as his main account during the bread price fixing scandal and just generally being a monopoly ripping off Canadians is also disqualifying AF.
I’d like to see the metrics used to justify that opinion too. As for being gay…Pete was asked that question on the Flagrant podcast a few weeks ago. His answer 👇🏼
lol no it’s not and there are way to many homophobic people who would use that as an excuse l…
Some will always look for a reason to invalidate someone. Islamophobia, Xenophobia, Homophobia (so many phobias!). A lot of progress has been made, begun w/ the movie “Philadelphia” - “Will & Grace” - “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy”, etc. Exhibit A - CO governor - gay & Jewish.
I’m not willing to lose another presidential election to prove Pete Buttigieg supporters wrong! The United States has slid backwards on the acceptance of LGBTQIA+ folks. If the nomination of Zohran Mamdani hasn’t shown you how racist & Islamophobic the country is, you’re fooling yourself.
All Black People: absolutely not
I imagine more than a few other no's will be offered to the McKinsey vat-grown ratboy.
So stay honest and get Trump?
Pete has favorable Black support. Just stop with the misinformation.
Shut up white. You don’t know ANYTHING about us.
He has certainly made substantial mistakes. I consider the many epiphanies and lessons learned by mistakes in my own life and that I have heard others remark upon in their lives. His full-throated acknowledgment of same when he wasn’t running for any position deserves recognition.
He’s still a corporate dicksucker who loves Israel. Nowhere near a good choice.
But hasn’t spoke on support of Palestine
An example from last summer FYI. Recall that the Middle East was not part of his USDOT portfolio so he has made very few post 10/7 statements.
I am so glad that you were fully heard and that you felt it in the moment. The situation is complex & heartbreaking beyond words. May peace be upon all those whose lives have been lost and may peace cover those who grieve.
FYI -The post is not mine, it's from a woman who attended a Harris fundraiser featuring Pete.
Thank you for passing it along. Underscores a lot.
I’m a Kentuckian. Beshear replaced a terrible governor and has done a great job for our state. He’s not president material.
I don’t know. He won re-election in a deep red state that has consistently sent people like McConnell, Massie, Comer, and Paul to DC despite them not doing one damn thing for the state. He’s a decent man & I’dvote for him if I was living back in my home state.
I love Andy too as a Kentuckian But all that happened is our people are resistant to change. They will constantly vote for whomever is already in office even if they hate them just because it means no change in our daily lives. Andy only won because our previous slimeball fucked over teachers.
Yeah but he won the office that was previously held by his own father just 4 years prior and his father was a popular governor. I’m not saying Andy isn’t talented in his own right but I think his talent may be Kentucky specific
Vice President?
Why don’t you think he is president material?
This fella is worth watching. Just saying
Beshear would be an attractive "mainstream" option if Democrats want to win the presidency...Not progressive enough possibly for the leftists but appealing to true Independents and those with buyer's remorse on MAGA
There are no independents. There are no undecided centrists because the Democrats ARE the centrists. They need to be veering left, not right.
Nonexistent people you’re talking about

He's a nice guy but wouldn't be my first choice for POTUS in 2028.
Agree and I voted for him twice.
I would as well if I lived in KY. He's intelligent, well-educated and has represented KY very well.
