Watergate hearings, which I watched, actually uncovered information. Those who testified felt obligated to answer the questions truthfully. In today's PR infected world, few congressional hearings can penetrate the legerdemain of government protected witnesses. Ms Monarez is a throwback.

Liberals and non-MAGA conservatives still feel obligated to testify truthfully to Congress (i.e. to obey the law). It is only MAGA conservatives who think they are entitled to lie to Congress (and to break any law).

They obfuscate rather than lie directly. I was particularly bothered by the chief law enforcement officer saying, 'Asked and answered.' That was a lie no one could prosecute.
