Does anyone else cringe when someone says "males" or "females"?
Does anyone else cringe when someone says "males" or "females"?
Depends. In the scientific concepts explaining sexual dimorphism then it's normal. When using it to speak about humans it's dehumanizing and indeed cringe.
Absolutely, unless we're talking about animals.
But humans ARE animals. We should be consistent.
Should we eat humans too then, for consistency?
Of course! There are several places and people that already do this. I mean I am consistent by not eating ANY meat but that’s just me. If you’re going to eat animal, it seems stupid to discriminate against human animal.
YES. DEFINITELY YES.
Only when referring to human people
Yeag for me it gets to the point where i just think they’re going to start going down the incel pipeline calling women femoids or whatever weird fucking deranged terms they’ll come up with, since it’s just a fucked up us vs them kinda sexist mentality people like that have idk thats the vibes i get
also reminds me of the fucker on some news channel that was calling that poor pregnant brain dead woman in georgia like a vessel or some insane shit, like idk why but always calling women females give me that feeling too where they’ll dehumanize women even more than what the patriarchy does already
If it's not in a conversation of anatomical sciences, then yes.
What if it’s Attenborough?
Unless you're some taxonomist speaking about animals.
Only when it’s followed by a sexist sentence by the words. Otherwise if it’s followed by something supportive I’m all for it.
4000000% yes I can't even bring myself to say it unless I'm talking about animals or actual biology
Every time Most who insist on using it outside of specific scientific discussions never mean well
I always hear it coming from a Ferengi's voice.
It feels really weird 😭😭😭
Even if those words weren't hijacked by those online "alpha male" types, it's still awkward to say in regular conversation. Like referring to salt as "sodium chloride."
"Actually dude"
Every time
[Maximally autistic] depends on the context
So happy I'm not the only one who immediately thinks of the Ferengi when I hear "females".
yeah, except in certain very specific contexts, they sound like Ferengi
Males and females? Unless they're saying "males/females of our species", yes. Because it's grammatically incorrect. Now male/female clothes/chromosome/organs? That's fine. Because it is also correct.
"females" especially. Makes me think of the Ferengi
When I'm referring to armor in a video game (as in male and female version, if the characters are clearly gendered. I am modding Skyrim. Again.) I'm fine with it. Referring to actual humans? Don't like it. Especially if it's "female and man".
I use male and female exclusively at work when I am trying to find out what kind of terminal connector a customer needs for their wiring.
When men call women “females”, yes. Though not when people are talking about sex. And I find it more cringy when people use gender and sex interchangeably
