I was wrong when, after the Golden Escalator ten years ago, I said in public that no serious political party would even consider making him their nominee. Or maybe ... (Don't think I've been wrong on much about him since then.)

I was right about Trump from the jump. I was wrong about America.
How self-involved.
he's getting sicker and more delusional by the day. His constant need for praise and fawning attention and pictures of himself and gold… Could it be signs of chronic venereal disease?
I was wrong in 2016 because I thought he wasn’t interested in governing so he wouldn’t do anything for 4 years and no real damage would be done.
I was wrong when I thought he was done after attacking John McCain in 2015. His "I like people who weren't captured" bit. No WAY Republicans support a man who disses the troops like that, I thought. Turns out they don't believe in any of that shit. It's a party of opportunists and cowards.
That Democrats haven't hammered him (and Republican voters) over and over again on this is exactly what's wrong with the Democrats.
sad business.
Three times I said "there's just no way he wins the presidential election". Twice I was dreadfully wrong...
I was also wrong. I thought the joke would pass and never thought he’d become the POTUS. Just worries me for the state of mind of so many Americans.
I thought he was a joke. Joke was on me.
“serious”
I predicted in July 2015 that he'd be the nominee, but wouldn't likely win
I can still remember our derisive laughter at the notion of St Ronnie of Alzheimer's running for president.
And he had already served two terms as governor of the biggest state!
I know. I suffered through both terms, then moved to DC and he followed me. Couldn’t shake the guy.
Yet even with dementia Reagan didn't surround himself with authoritarian minions. The people around Reagan mostly cared about our experiment with democracy. tRump & his crew care only of themselves and even return to Jim Crow.
He did, but that looked different back then. Haig, Watt, etc.
I’m good, called him a fascist after that first coming down the escalator speech But then, I’ve lectured on democracy with tanks outside the classroom
Zeus lightning was down that day for maintenance
What you said after the Golden Escalator ride should’ve been absolutely right, but something has gone very wrong, very wrong with the Republican Party, with the country.
Sadly, Trump's incoherent, incompetent authoritarian chaos is EXACTLY what many, many of his voters want and still approve of. I was disappointed but not surprised.
I was in a restaurant with my daughter, my son and my son's wife (Father's Day) when I first saw that and I started laughing. I explained that for a long time, Trump was basically a joke. In the Eighties and Nineties if a comic needed a laugh, he'd just say, "Donald Trump."
It was like saying, "New Jersey."
