It IS an honor. The nominees go through a 3 or 4 step approval process. They do not pay to automatically get a star. Please keep in mind, this is a city government (Hollywood) - so the “charge” to honorees is used to help offset the cost of manufacturing the star, the ceremony, & future upkeep.

What took so long is you have to actively apply to get a star, its not something they just decide to give out. $275 application fee. Then if they decide you actually rank to have one, you pay $85,000 for the star itself.
