But straight people have taken it and turned it into a tool of hollow corporate virtue signalling. I don’t know if you’re any safer than the people who don’t have a little sticker cause *I don’t know you*: show me community, show me solidarity, then we’ll talk.
And hey, we’re a victim of our own success: people can say they’re an ally without worrying for their own safety… but “having queer friends”, “knowing queer people” doesn’t make you an ally: we all know those straight people who claim our friendship while demeaning, insulting, and assaulting us.
But as the world becomes more dangerous for us, yet again, we’ll see who the real allies are: those who are as scarred and bruised from the fight as we are.
