I don’t think there was a winning coalition of voters that wanted Income tax, VAT rises, or wealth taxes. Do you ?

VAT is a tax on the poor. Higher rates of tax for the 1% would have the support of the 99%, whether it be in the form of income or wealth tax (or preferably both).

You’re living in a different reality. While you may want this to be the case - it wasn’t. As such we have the winning coalition that we have, and must make do with that.
