That’s my point. Just because someone belongs to a religion, even if their faith is seen by them as one of the better, more accepting faiths, does not mean they’re a better, more accepting person. So why do we need to announce our religious affiliation to run for office?
Good question. I don’t have a good answer, but I’m guessing that they are trying to appeal to those people for whom religion helps define who they are and judge others by their affiliation. It’s not great, and people should evaluate others on their position vs their faith.
