People in the UK and EU have been advised to take burner phones to the US, with no links to their social media. People in the US are being snatched off the street, bundled into vans and disappeared. People legally in the US have had visas withdrawn for criticising/protesting your govt.

Totally agree this is an absurdly bad take. Also, we put too many people in prison for too long for dumb reasons. Connolly is a symptom of many aspects of UK state failure - including, today, the normalisation of racism. Why the British state is such a poor learner is hard to fathom.
