135 years ago on this day in 1890, the great Duke Paoa Kahinu Mokoe Hulikohola Kahanamoku was born in Haleʻākala, Honolulu, Kingdom of Hawaii. Regarded as the father of modern surfing and credited with sharing the ancient sport of surfing with the rest of the world.
