needing help to walk downstairs which lots of old people do -- and he IS old -- is not usually a sign of"dementia." He has enough relevant symptoms to focus on

Coordination of limbs especially when balance is involved is one of the first casualties of cognitive decline. Losing the ability to ride a bike is a warning sign in elderly. Stairs are another one.

It would be so satisfying seeing him do his job in a wheelchair. Not anyone else. Just him.
