I was at the opening of the new V.A. Clinic in Chesapeake, VA this week. Yes, I spent some time outside with a sign as the "VIP guests" and veterans arrived.
Most arrivals were happy to see us, except one. She put her window down and very nastily gave us a 🖕, smirking as she drove off. I was fairly certain I recognized her, but wasn't sure. So I put my sign in my car and went inside.
Imagine my surprise to find that she was a keynote speaker, being the Representative from that district. Yes Fred, it was the dis-Honorable Jen Kiggins, a fecking veteran!

I'm a mental health advocate and the #1 thing I hear from active duty peeps is they are worried about privacy bc even going for easily treatable reasons could result in dismissal. Thing is when people are too afraid to even ask for help, they are more likely to become suicidal long term.
It's well known that there are better long term outcomes if people seek help early and the VA learned this the hard way in the past. Policies like this will kill people.

I work in a leased office where Veterans aren’t seen and they had to supply monitors and other office equipment so I could do my remote work around people I don’t work with. It’s not about efficiency but about making us miserable so we quit. But serving Veterans is a calling so I can endure a lot.
Same thing as a friend of mine . He’s now essentially teleworking from a rented office (that the VA has to pay for) where none of his co-workers even work and no vets come to. Pointless.
Working from home for years. Saves the company money on real estate, office supplies, connectivity charges, etc. Most are more productive at home as they don't want to lose the privilege and can better balance work/home life. This goal? Thin the herd without a layoff and/or destroy the institution.

I know this is bad and until we can throw all the assholes in jail maybe we can get creative. Create a curtain or padding that can be raised to create higher walls. Noise machines or fountains to cover voices. Our public library system has private small rooms (free) & large rooms $50/4hrs.
When I assumed my last assignment, an adverse actions officer was in a cubicle across from my office suite. I moved an admin assistant out of a private office to his cube and the officer into that office. Sensitive positions require privacy for frank discussions. Vets will hold back and we will die.

I’m a vet myself. Vets are already suffering and deserve so much better. And that’s one of the main reasons I’m running for congress.
My SIL is a nurse for the VA who was working from home. She just sent pictures of her new “office.” It was absolutely disgusting. Brown water sitting in the sink. Filthy place. She has to bring her own water because the water that is available poses a risk for Legionnaires disease.
My brother in law is an Inspector General at an air base. They ordered him to come in every day, which wouldn't be a big deal, but they had no room for him! He's been sitting at a plastic picnic table.
They cut me off from my therapist when she refused to share my private, detailed session notes. It’s all completely F’ed up.
That information should be between a patient and a healthcare professional yeah these jackasses don't care for the well-being of anyone else except for themselves.
My suspicion is that they want to check to make sure there’s no one getting gender affirming care (and plan on using AI to comb through people’s private notes). No thank you.
