It's called money, Chris.
It's called money, Chris.
Indeed
The point is to erase the original cast that spoke in favour of the trans community. That's it.
It's gonna be so easy to not watch this.
The point is to make money and allow a whole new generation of kids to enjoy the amazing world of Harry Potter. The books are awesome and very enjoyable and the movies were fun too but with the series they can make the show more book accurate. Win for all the new kids that will love this once more.
Let me tell you a secret: the kids are already watching the movies.
And many will watch the show including many new viewers that have never seen the movies.
At first, but then they'll probably get bored and watch the movies on the same platform rather than wait two years between seasons.
Ouch, yeah 2 years between seasons will be tough and the actors will age 2 years instead of 1 between semesters
isn't the point reboots recycle the same dreck to cash in on a new generation of children?
This time isn't about money.
Probably not for Rowling. It absolutely is for Zaslav.
but of course it is
This is about erasing the original cast that supported the trans community. Money isn't the main focus here.
of course money is the main focus, this isn't going to "erase" the first cast, and maybe Rowling (who can go fuck herself) is glad to have other people in the roles, but the whole purpose of projects like this is to make billions of dollars
Hey old Harry, Hermoinie and Ron oppose her views. She wants new ones now.
The point is that the creator can’t bear that the stars of the original films aren’t awful transphobes… so she needs to have it made again.
The point is bigotry.
Yeh, Chris Columbus is kind of getting to the point. Rowling is angry at the stars of the old Harry Potter films not following her in her bigotry, so wants this new adaptation.
That's funny -- that's what I always say about Chris Columbus.
Nick Frost is incredibly weird casting for Hagrid
the point is rowling now has new actors to promote bc the "old" ones are loud and proud about supporting trans people! AS THEY SHOULD BE. 🏳️⚧️
me: mum can we have hagrid mum: we have hagrid at home *the hagrid at home*
i dont care and have never liked harry potter but are people excited about this? the bits i've seen fit this quote, they look like they're just remaking the same thing with new kids
also, about 4 times as long! The first movie was about 2 hours - season 1 is probably going to be 8 hours at least. So expect a LOT of padding, as there's not actually that much going on
It's not even as if the source novels are gt works of literature with depths to explore. They're derivative & clunkily written. I can happily watch diff adaptations of 'Les Miserables', a big novel with lots of narrative layers and subplots. But the Potter series? Ye gods..! Bad enough the 1st time.
yup - "what is the point of this?" is a entirely valid question, it's not as though there's vast reams of side-content to explore or core plotlines that were skipped, it's literally "hey, that story you've seen and read? want it again, but spread out more? here you go!"
I tried to read the books (was an adult when they came out), but they just struck me as v dated & clunkily written: Jennings-with-Spells. Cardboard characters, a lot of 2D stereotyping of kids from other countries (the representation of the other magic schools wd have been embarrassing in 1950s)...
Yeah I'm only a little older than the books but I grew up and still only read scifi/fantasy, including wizard stuff back then like Terry Brooks, Dragonlance, blahblah. I'm happy that HP got people who would never open books to read books but man it was absolute trash for 10 year olds.
I grew up on Tolkien, Alan Garner, Rosemary Sutcliff, as well as all the Victorian/Edwardian classics. I think HP was lucky to come out at the same time as a particular type of marketing & merchandising.
Absolutely. I think HP caused the bookstore boom back then, I used to spend so much time in Barnes and Nobles etc
Don't think it *caused* it, more that it rode on the back of viral & early online marketing. Bookshops were thriving then (we had a good Borders in Glasgow) before being overtaken by online shopping.
plus a setting that's really easy to insert yourself into, the cast growing up with readers, coming out often enough to get momentum etc. it doesn't seem as super-popular with younger readers who can shotgun it down at once
Oh I didnt realise this was a series
yup - it's gonna be a LOT of footage. And take years to film, so expect some of the cast to literally die of old age, or the awkwardness of puberty for the young ones. Stranger Things has taken 9 years for 4 seasons, if this is similar, we're gonna have 30-year-olds playing teens!
