Never heard of that term.
"Cafetière" is just French for "coffee device", with no specified tech implied. Not even filtration vs percolation. An electric drip coffee maker is a cafetière. So is a cafetière à piston (French press), a cafetière pression (moka pot), a cafetière napolitaine, a Chemex, a cafetière expresso.

In the UK we do. I learned the term french press years later.
